How about this one https://computerlounge.co.nz/products/alta-rtx-5070-ryzen-7-5700x-gaming-pc?variant=52307129336180

Thank you once again Brian. Man this really is a different area for me. My local computer store suggested this one as an alternative: https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/WKSGGPC50360/GGPC-Powered-By-Asus-AMD-Radeon-RX-9070-Gaming-PC It's just numbers to me. The passmark list doesn't have either of the graphics cards on it so that's not helping my confusion 🤣 I definitely want 64gb ram and more than 1tb of storage. my poor wee laptop is 1tb and it's just not enough. I'm working off external drives to help it keep up.

Hi Brian, I'm going to get this one that a friend recommended and upgrade the ram and memory https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/WKSPB53025/PB-Pro-Creator-RTX-5060-Ti-16GB-Studio-PC-AMD-Ryze Is it good!? Also I'm going to need a monitor but I was really hoping that I could do this at a later date you know, soften the blow and maybe try and get a second hand one. I've read another post about then probably needing another calibrator which of course I don't want to buy haha 🙃 We have a couple of old monitors hanging around at home, will either of them be ok? At least until I can justify the cost? Philips 243v7q Lg e1941t-bn

Thanks Brian really appreciate it!

OMG my current card is scoring 437 hahaha no wonder it is slow haha

Thank you Brian. Are these easy things to change? Wondering if I could ask them to upgrade that part or is that not a thing? It seems like a really great price other than that. https://nzpcclearance.co.nz/product/dell-precision-t5820-xeon-w-2104/

Hi Brian, I'm in the market for a new pc. Going to get a desktop now that I'm able to (sitting in one place rather than moving around). I have read your article about buying a computer in 2025 which is great thank you. I am wondering about the graphics card. You say 4070 or 4080. I have come across a computer that has all the other specs you mentioned but for the graphics it says this: NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 8GB High end 3D cards is this a no go or is it just totally different? I've googled it and it says released 2018 compared with the others being more recent. So that makes me think it's a no, but curious if I should just pass on it. Cheers, Salena

Ok great I'll look at that number when looking too. My laptop keeps crashing when trying to drag and drop files from hard drive to my external hard drive. Recently I updated all my drivers and I think maybe that's the problem. Could it be that the external hard drives have a driver that is incompatible or something?

Great thanks Brian. Last question for now. Are the plug in ones faster or better than the portable ones?
-
Thank you. Yes I took it quite seriously when it was saying 5gb and was in red writing. Does anyone work off external hard drives? Like could I put all my archived photos on one and then plug it in when I want to focus on one of my books? And then just keep my images that are a work in progress on my laptop?

I've got 5 in total 2 full. So I update onto 3. One is just for client work and the other 2 are a mix. Every set is on 2 or 3 of them. It would probably be best if I consolidate but I am quite untrusting of them so feel like spreading them over is less risk. I am not particularly mobile with them. When I am mobile, I just have my laptop and not a drive. My laptop has 1TB and yesterday after adding the weekend's work it was reduced to 5gb and scratch disks were full. So I've moved some around and deleted from laptop and now I've got 146 odd gb.

Ok cool. So I make a yearly book of photos for my kids, mostly cell phone photos but also others of trips we've taken that I've taken on my dslr. I'm behind on my mission and currently at 2019. So I've been keeping anything relevant on my laptop. When I am working on my book, I'd like to be able to work off an external drive. Using bridge I'm hoping this will be easy enough. Currently I've got everything on portable hard drives and a spreadsheet with the details keeping track of it. Do you recommend desktop ones over portable?

Cool, shall I ask follow up questions on that thread or my one? Don't wanna break any rules!!

Hi Brian, My laptop is overloaded and I need some help. I'm a bit of a photo hoarder for personal photos and need a better way of storing them. Do you have an article about what type of HD to buy? I feel like I've read one before but not sure where.
