  1. This update is late coming, but just wanted to say that I never did get my cloud service to respond with any real service regarding my lost files, but I did finally get my “crashed” computer evaluated today. Turns out a blocked fan was crashing my computer at start up and mimicking a drive failure. I’m getting all my lost images back!!! My masters are safe. First thing I’m doing when I get my computer back is a hard drive transfer and shopping for a new cloud service.
  2. I still have the crashed computer and perhaps we can repair the driver (I’m guessing) and try to retrieve if all else fails. But even that isn’t a guarantee.
  3. The Cloud company has apologized and said they take responsibility. They’ve asked me to download some file from the cloud and send the zip file back to them in an email, which I’ve done. The development team is looking into it, but haven’t heard an update in several days. They didn’t have any answers for why the service backed up only jpegs and not psd files or why there are xmp files. In my thinking the service should have backed up the psd files at the same time the jpegs were since they were in specific folders with sub folders for each type of file ( masters, print files, web files). Masters are nowhere to be found.
  4. I have contacted them and it takes awhile for answers. They initially lost all my files and then development found them. It’s been a hassle all the way around. I also thought the point was to have my files kept. I’m paying roughly $100 per year for this and don’t have my master files. Thanks for walking me through this part. I can tel the xmp files are suppose to be my masters as the numbers per folder match a typical client gallery of 35-40 images.
  5. Not sure if this matters at all, but I’m restoring files to a new computer. This isn’t the original computer which they were stored on. The old computer stays on the black screen of death no matter how many times I do the tutorial for windows logon restoring.
  6. Also, any idea why a cloud service might do this to PSD files?
  7. I recently suffered a computer crash and am restoring files from my cloud service. All of my master files seem to either be missing or perhaps are the xmp files I see but can’t open in PS or Bridge. I’m thinking perhaps I need to open them in ACR but do not see that as an option under filters. I also recently upgraded to PS CC from PS5. I’m going through the learning curve and need a little help figuring out how to open these xmp files to see if they are my master files. The files say PS because I tried opening them that way, but they are the xmp files.
  8. True. Thank you. As long as it helps me do a reasonable editing job for the task at hand, I will be happy. All my pro work will be done on my desktop. Just can't stand seeing my work look so horrible, thanks to your awesome classes.
  9. I guess I'm also asking if the Display Pro will work for a $299 Dell laptop? Trying to figure out if the screen sucks because I bought a $299 laptop or if I simply need to calibrate. I mean, I know I need to on any computer I use, but scared it won't fix what I am seeing. I tried to post a screen capture, but the upload failed.
  10. I just bought a Dell Inspiron 15 3000 series laptop to travel with. I normally edit on a desktop PC, but I need to do some editing on an upcoming trip this weekend (nothing client related). I tried to install my X-Rite i1 Display 2 on the laptop, but it isn't working. I checked their website for any available upgrade downloads only to discover that this model is now retired. I am assuming my current calibrator isn't supported by Windows 10. Does that sound like a good reason for not working? This screen looks horribly desaturated, gray and cold. It's absolutely awful. Was thinking of buying the X-Rite i1 Display Pro, but afraid to spend that much if the issue is this computer. Any advice?
