  1. Thanks Brian! I'll stick with the DDR4. So far I have chosen an i7-13700K, and this GPU https://www.newegg.ca/gigabyte-geforce-rtx-3070-gv-n3070eagle-oc-8gd/p/N82E16814932451?Item=N82E16814932451
  2. Hey again Brian, thoughts on DDR4 vs 5 for photoshop? 🤔
  3. Thanks Brian!! Helpful info about the resolution. I was considering 24" for budget purposes, but I'm currently on an ancient imac so I'm used to 27". I'll add that monitor to the parts list
  4. This is really helpful! Thanks! I've been continuing to do more research and I'm going to try building my own after all. Good to know about the 850W power supply, I was looking at 650 but was wondering if it would be enough. I'll save myself the future hassle and get 2x 32GB RAM up front, haha. Still recommend the 24" dell ultrasharp monitor?
  5. I need to get a new computer! I've reviewed all your guides and found them really helpful. I'm going with PC this time. I've been considering trying to build my own but I'm not sure I'm up to that task. I found this one and thought it looked really good for the price. At that price, I could immediately upgrade to 32gb ram. However...it has an nvidia 3060 card. I've seen you elsewhere suggest to skip this card. What are your thoughts? https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product/lenovo-ideacentre-gaming-5i-desktop-pc-intel-core-i7-12700-1tb-hdd-512gb-ssd-16gb-ram-rtx-3060-eng-only-at-best-buy/16496746
  6. Whew!! Okay, good to know. I'll cross my fingers and get to it in between clients. I need the new FCP pretty soon, so it'll force me into it! Thanks for your help
  7. Oh wow, that is very good to know! Thanks!! I'll try and stay with Yosemite for awhile yet then, I think. How do I find the update to get the latest version it? I went to the app store but it just tells me I should get Sierra.
  8. It looks like I would need 10.11.4 for Final Cut, so I'll have to do it eventually. Right now I use Photoshop more though, so my concern was updating and having it not work well with Photoshop. But I am glad to hear that PS CC means I should be pretty safe!
  9. I'm so nervous to update my iMac. I've heard stories of updates not playing nicely with Photoshop and my computer is pretty old too, so I am worried it will run slower with a new OS. Right now it handles Photoshop CC and Final Cut Pro pretty well (though I do have the weird black boxes showing up in PS sometimes). I have a mid-2011 27" iMac with 12GB of ram. I have 10.10.5 installed on it right now, and I try to keep it clean with CleanMyMac. Should I try updating to Sierra? Aside from making sure Time Machine is up to date, anything else I should do beforehand?
  10. Hahahaha GOOD lol!!!! Thanks
  11. Getting there I think. The edge is a bit difficult - smaller brush, more patience?
  12. Awesome! Thanks!! I'll try it now.
  13. Hi Damien, I read your article on using channel mixer to fix a sun flare. I've tried to follow it with this image but so far my attempts to fix it don't make it look any better, just changes the colour of the flare. How can I fix it? Thanks!
  14. Thanks for the help!!
  15. Here is my attempt-
  16. Did you resize the new piece of background a bit smaller?
  17. I also have this one-
  18. How about this?
  19. Hi again Damien! I'd like to remove the person from the background of this photo. I've tried content aware fill which didn't work, and my attempt at cloning was far too obvious. I started down a path following the cake plate removal technique from a different post - copied the background, enlarged it, and masked in some of the larger rock and green background to cover as much as I could. But now I'm finding the masking is just as obvious as the cloning. Figured I would stop now and ask - what's a good technique here? I think I have another photo with some different background to borrow, if that's the solution.
  20. I think I know why...I put the new raw file in my previous PSD wondering if my levels layers would still work with the new raw. Not so much, yikes. Starting from scratch!
  21. I still need to fine-tune the masking, but overall I am very happy with it!! Thanks so much Damien. I think my client will be happy too - or I suppose they won't actually notice that I did anything, and just think their old bench doesn't look too bad after all
  22. Here's my start at it, before I go on to the whole bench. Look okay to you?
  23. I think the deluxe class is in my future. For now, hopefully this has corrected the issue enough? I can get another crop of the bench if this will suffice.
  24. That is with my raw processing done - what is incorrect?
  25. During the session there was a bit of concern over this bench appearing a little weathered and dirty. I used a layer on colour mode and painted a bit of good colour back onto some of the greyest parts - is there anything to be done with the areas that look dirty? Thanks!
