  1. Nah man, all I did was download photoshop because I knew it was going to take a while here.  Nothing else was just plugged into the computer, just the mouse, keyboard and monitor.

know I need Firefox but was just in a rush to get the dl going. Did contact Dell, did everything they recommended. Plug unplug hold power button to drain power, f12 for diagnostics, checked all the boot profile things (forget the acronyms)

Dell said sounds like a motherboard issue.

Even if I could fix it would you want to keep a computer that’s having problems straight out of the box? ?

  2. So - powered up the computer today.. had no problems, downloaded photoshop, went to go do something while it downloaded.
came back to the desktop, couldn’t open explorer internet (all it came with) said that I had windows on it, wouldn’t pull up, closed all windows, still nothing.
restarted, and now I’ve got a black screen of nothing ???

  3. Uhg taking off the top sleeve was a bust.. for one someone’s been in there.. or it’s had a major longtime rub/jam issue.. there were two brass rings.. one was in great shape the other all bent up. Had a hard time getting the focus ring to engage and (crosses head heart shoulders) a small rubber piece fell out from somewhere.

This is will just have to be a investment further down the line.. when I was working for Automobile magazine and Popular mechanics it was a great tool. Not subbing for them as much these days and living a quieter life in the woods. We scored this lens at a great deal and it definitely paid for itself. It did get me my only shot in The New York Times, so RIP stout sally.

  4. So I was wrong! It's been so long since I've taken it out of the case - I was thinking of what they had us use for the college newspaper / football games. Anyway, for one the auto focus is totally shot so I'm not sure there's much you can help me with - but when it was acting up it would freeze up my camera and I'd get an error message and I couldn't shoot with it unless I formatted and put in a fresh card, so I've been terrified to use it and its not totally practical all the time. But it is(was) a great lens.. as I mentioned we got it second hand. I guess my question would be do you think the repair might be work the cost?

  5. Yes of course I only do no interest!

Yes Black Friday. I can wait, and I’ll see what I can do about accommodating the bill.  If you’re saying there’s no sound investment in $500 I won’t waste it. You’d be a fair honest salesman. I believe I saw your Rec for $849? Where and how much should I be looking for? I can deal hunt but a few websites would be good, I’m not familiar with online retailers like that these days lol.

What about mouse and keyboard? Usb plugs. Not sure how much that would knock off.

  6. okay - Lets say I have a budget of $500. I want to buy refurbished, I don't care about brand just reliability. Something that will work with my current monitor unless you think that needs replacing too.. I am waiting on prints for calibration if it gives me a super hard time I might. (HPs2031) and how long, counting after market mods, can I expect to use it? It will be solely for editing and firefox only.

could you find me two examples worth buying?

  7. Two years ago I asked for my spyder monitor cal ?? yes it is a great blessing to get those as gifts.  I have a great uncle who is involved in all the grandkids lives and when I was in high school he actually helped me get my first D80. I saved up for the d700. Cant believe I waited so long for these classes. Oh well! Moving forward.

Which place did you send yours to? ? nah that’s definitely karma you deserve it, always here to help us thank you.

  8. Ah this makes sense. Going to explore all my options... I almost want to snag the cheaper nifty 50 and just repair the other in a couple months... I do have a sigma 70-200 I need repaired but I’m scared of that bill(maybe we could troubleshoot in another post?). Have a manual(analong??) macro lens from a film camera and the focus is great. Have a few other lenses but had them since I was a late teen and they’re not in the best shape but I might try them out today
