  1. Thanks. I ordered 2 Lenovo laptops. A new model with specs to grow into and a Certified Refurbished one that is one gpu level below the one that went bad. It will be my travel box. old one was a 4070 gpu this is a 4060. The new one will be a 5070. Think that will hold me. Also, PLEASE don't let WINDOWS do your firmware updates. it makes BRICKS.
  2. One more question. I know you not a big HP fan but is the OMEN line any better?:
  3. Thanks for your input again.

  5. Gotcha. They trying to be slick. Almost brought it home. Back to the drawing board.
  6. Looking at a MSI Crosshair 18” with what they call IPS Level display panel. Bought a nice Lenovo in Nov 2023 that just died after warranty expired last year. Tried to stay with Lenovo and their new 2025 models, all but 1, have adopted the OLED glare displays. The one they have with IPS won’t ship till Sept. This is from a Google search: AI Overview +1 The MSI Crosshair 18 HX AI A2XW is a gaming laptop featuring an 18-inch QHD+ (2560x1600) IPS-Level display with a 240Hz refresh rate. It is powered by an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU. The laptop also includes 16GB of DDR5 RAM and a 1TB NVMe PCIe Gen4 SSD for storage. It runs on Windows 11. Your thoughts? also looked at ASUS ROG and don’t like the numlock keys as part of the trackpad. Weird. This is to the MSI spec page. https://us.msi.com/Laptop/Crosshair-18-HX-AI
  7. I ran the Ambient Light Measurement and got this. Does this mean my room is not bright enough?
  8. The RGB settings from earlier in the calibration are at 48-50 now. This might have to go back.
  9. Got a new 27in MSI G274QPF monitor. (IPS, Anti Glare, etc). got latest software for Calibrite Colorchecker Display Pro. Get all the way to the brightness adjustment. Set Target Luminance to 80. Measured Luminance is 213 at default setting for Brightness at 68. Adjust Brightness to lowest setting of 0 and Measured Luminance only goes down to 135. What are my options at this point? 10. Price went up $50 since i ordered the Lenovo yesterday. Now $1449. Regular $1999
  11. Ordered from B&H.. Best price all around for I9 and RTX 4070. Others have said the used 64GB and no issues. Will watch the prices of DDR5 @2x32GB and deal with it as pries fall or needs come up. Thanks for you words of wisdom.
  12. Just got off a chat with Lenovo Support after seeing that all the offerings only show memory upgrading to a ax of 32GB. They said that is correct. I don't see the Legion 5 Pro on Amazon being offer with 64GB but they are coming from after market companies. Checked MicroCenter, BestBuy, B&H, etc and they all max out at 32GB. Any idea why 32GB is max? At todays standards I would need to buy another one next year. Also NVMe SSD max up to 1TB. This is very disheartening to find out. Was about to order this one today: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1745682-REG/lenovo_82wk0083us_16_legion_pro_5i.html Wonder if it is the Chipset they are using: Chipset Chipset Intel HM770 chipset All Lenovo offerings: https://psref.lenovo.com/Product/Legion/Legion_Pro_5_16IRX8 Memory Max Memory[1] Up to 32GB DDR5-4800 offering Up to 32GB DDR5-5600 offering Memory Slots Two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots, dual-channel capable Memory Type** DDR5-4800[2] DDR5-5600 Notes: 1. The max memory is based on the test results with current Lenovo memory offerings. 2. Installed memory is actually 5600MHz but may run at 4800MHz due to processor limitation. Storage Storage Support[1] Up to two drives, 2x M.2 SSD • M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB Storage Slot Two M.2 2280 PCIe® 4.0 x4 slots
  13. Found this on B&H. Wish Amazon had it as I have A $280 reward credit I could use. They have a I7 with the 4070 for about $1599.
  14. They also have this one on sale. $1299 MSI Raider 16”, I9-13950HX, 32 GB
  15. Here is a new offer from Costco: Lenovo LEGION Pro 5i 16" Gaming Laptop - 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900HX - GeForce RTX 4060 - 165Hz 2560 x 1600 $1299
  16. Thanks Brian. I went ahead and bought it but not going to open it as the other Black Friday sales are still to come.. COSTCO has a 90 day return policy and unopen box. Keeping eye on the Lenovo and ASUS equivalents. One other limitation I found in this one is it only has one NVMe slot. That is more of a deal breaker for me. Got my eye out.
  17. Model # HP Victus - HP 16-r0073cl Some of the reviews don't like the screen but being anti-glare may be the reasons for gamers to dislike. Also no SD Card slot but see that going away on a lot of laptops i have looked at. Lastly the USB-C port does not allow charging, not sure if good or bad, that would be new to me. Would like to be able to get Display out with a USB-C docking adapter. will reaseach that one. 18. Brian, what are your thoughts on this laptop. My 13 year old ASUS finally died and currently running on a basic HP I5 but I have a dedicated desktop for editing. Want to as a backup to editing and a little gaming. Sale on this ends today, 12 Nov 2023. I know there may be other deals coming up as Black Friday approaches. If this does not meet a particular spec please let me know. Thanks.
  19. Brian, how do you feel about building a system using a AMD Ryzen 7 5700G and AMD Radeon RX7700 XT GPU vs a Intel I7 13th Gen CPU and Nvidia 3070 or 4070 GPU. Does AMD hardware play well with Photoshop and Premier, or Adobe products in general? Ready to pull the plug soon. MAC/Apple is not a option fo me.
