Front focusing lens on old camera

Finally went full frame with my fourth camera and love it of course.  But lately I hauled out my OLD D40 thinking I would slap on that lightweight 35 1.8 DX lens and have something to carry around  to use like a point and shoot.  Forgot that the older lenses don't have the feature to calibrate the lens and it front focuses terribly.     

Is there anything I can do?

On the D40? Nothing you can do except manual focus or get a bigger body that has the "Fine Tune AF" feature.

You'll need a D90/Dxxxx class for that (Like a D7000 or the new D500.) The AF Fine Tune is on the camera body, not the lens.
