chayabraun Posted July 25, 2017 Posted July 25, 2017 I'm creating a wall display. I created squares, rectangles, circles, and ovals using the shape tool. Then I import my photo using "file -> place" and press control-alt-G to group it to the shape below, so that it fits into its shape. I cannot get a photo to fit into the hexagon which I've created using the shape tool! Any ideas?
Damien Symonds Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 May I see a screenshot of your Layers panel?
chayabraun Posted July 26, 2017 Author Posted July 26, 2017 The highlighted layer is the image of the baby in blue that I'm trying to fit into the purple hexagon.
Damien Symonds Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 And you're saying that when you hit Ctrl Alt G, nothing happens?
chayabraun Posted July 26, 2017 Author Posted July 26, 2017 When I hit Ctrl Alt G, the baby in blue totally disappears!
Damien Symonds Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Yes, because it's not positioned over the hexagon, right? Once it's clipped, just use the Move Tool (which you already have selected in your screenshot) to move the photo so the baby appears inside the shape. Are you sure the hexagon layer is on "Normal" blend mode and 100% opacity the way it should be?
chayabraun Posted July 26, 2017 Author Posted July 26, 2017 I moved it mostly off the hexagon to show you that the hexagon is there! I know how to clip and move things around:) Yes, normal mode, and 100% opacity! It's so strange!
Damien Symonds Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Ok, may I see a screenshot while it's clipped?
chayabraun Posted July 26, 2017 Author Posted July 26, 2017 here you go! The blue baby has disappeared!
Damien Symonds Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Two questions ... If you Ctrl-click on the thumbnail of the image layer in the Layers Panel, does it bring up marching ants around the (invisible) image as it's supposed to? If you right-click on the hexagon layer and choose "Rasterize layer" does that make any difference?
Damien Symonds Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Also ... 3. How long since you last restarted your computer? 1
chayabraun Posted July 26, 2017 Author Posted July 26, 2017 Hurray Damien!!!! 1. Yes, marching ants around an invisible rectangle. 2. That fixed it!!!!! Amazing!!! On 7/26/2017 at 1:54 AM, Damien Symonds said: Also ... 3. How long since you last restarted your computer? Expand 48 hours

It shouldn't be necessary. On 7/26/2017 at 1:55 AM, chayabraun said: 48 hours Expand Yeah, that's bad. Especially since you're working with so many files open.
Damien Symonds Posted July 26, 2017 Posted July 26, 2017 Every time you "restart" yourself. That is, every night. 1
chayabraun Posted July 26, 2017 Author Posted July 26, 2017 Thank you so much! That rasterizing was magical!
