StasiaB
Hi Damien, im hoping you can help me. I have just bought a new computer and am noticing that the colours in an image are extremely different in both Windows and photoshop. I have a HD monitor that i used to edit to on my old computer, but on the new computer it is showing different colours again. So 3 different colour palets are confusing me, any ideas on how to fix this?
Damien Symonds
Hi Stasia, let's start with a bit more info. Your profile says you have a laptop, but the HD monitor you're talking about - is it an extra monitor that you run off your laptop? Also, which Spyder do you have? StasiaB
Yes, i have a new lenovo laptop (windows 10) and have a samsung HD LED monitor that i plug into the laptop as an extra monitor.
Damien Symonds
Oh, bummer. Samsung screens are notoriously bad. Anyway, let's see what we can do. 3 minutes ago, Damien Symonds said: Also, which Spyder do you have?
StasiaB
Good to know that! I have a spyder 4 express
Damien Symonds
Now, this is VITALLY important. Have you made sure that, in the Displays control panel, you've got the screens set to "Extend" not "Duplicate"? Duplicate is very very bad. StasiaB
Yes i have these settings
Damien Symonds
Terrific. And you'd be aware, I suppose, that the Spyder Express doesn't let you calibrate two screens, so you've only calibrated the Samsung screen is that correct?
Damien Symonds
I have to pop out and pick up my kids from a play date. I'll be gone a little while. I wanted to check - did you follow my calibration instructions here? Also, can you tell me which lab you have your prints from?
StasiaB
Right! No, i have only calibrated the laptop, i assumed that the colour would carry over, sounds silly. So calibrate the samsung monitor too.
StasiaB
That link is very helpful, thank you! No problem i will calibrate the monitor and get my hands on somw prints for comparison. I dont have a print lab, i go to harvey norman as i feel there colours are very close to my editing.

No, it doesn't carry over, you must calibrate the Samsung. And understand that once you do that, the laptop screen will be useless for editing on. 51 minutes ago, StasiaB said: That link is very helpful, thank you! I know there are quite a few people who use HN very happily. I'd say it will be good enough for this purpose, for now at least. Remember that you don't need to order new prints - any prints that you already have lying around are fine.
StasiaB
I am not having too much luck. Trying to calibrate the Monitor and an error has occurred. I am not sure how to fix that. Is there any chance you could help me with trying to sync windows and ps colours to be the same without the monitor? *without samsung monitor
Damien Symonds
No, Windows and PS will never match each other. PS is colour-managed, Windows is not. The only thing that matters is getting the calibration right so that PS matches your prints. Tell me about that.
StasiaB
Ok. Again, thats good to know. As my laptop is very new i havent had any prints done so i will do that tomorrow and touch base with you as to whether w or ps is closer to the prints. Thank you so much so far. Damien Symonds
Talk to me, @StasiaB. How do your prints differ from Photoshop?
StasiaB
In the photo photoshop is showing people really really red. It looks shocking in photoshop, but when it saves and is viewed in windows, facebook on an ipad or a photo it is normal or desaturated.
Damien Symonds
Please answer the question. Comparisons between Photoshop and Windows are irrelevant. Only comparison to the prints matters. Are you saying that on Facebook, your photos match the prints?
StasiaB
Sorry yes.
Damien Symonds
Which web browser do you use?
StasiaB
On my laptop i use explorer, but the images on facebook that are close to the prints, are on facebook app on my ipad.
Damien Symonds
Your ipad is irrelevant, let's keep it out of the discussion. Now I'm back to needing clarification. Do your prints match Facebook ON YOUR COMPUTER?
StasiaB
Sorry Damien, yes the colours on facebook on my laptop are quite close to the prints. The prints are darker though.
Damien Symonds
Ok, interesting. Remind me - which screen do you have calibrated at the moment - the laptop one or the Samsung one?
