Leslie Vu
Hi Damien, I want to change the purple blouse to dark gray or black color but don't know how to it to look natural. Would you pls show me how to achieve it. Thank you!
Damien Symonds
As a first step, add a Channel Mixer adjustment layer, check the "Monochrome" checkbox, and enter 0, +100, 0 for the three values. Then mask it onto the shirt. Show me the result. You'll find you don't need to be too precise with your masking around the hair. That's the beauty of this method. You will need to be precise with a small brush along the straighter edges. Use this.
Leslie Vu
Good morning Damien, this is not as precise as I would do. I'm getting ready to go to work but too excited to try. (I'll do a precise one once I get off work tonight). Not sure if this is what you expect to see?
Samantha LaRue
@Leslie Vu, I think you have your layer mask flipped. It looks like you masked it off everything but her shirt. It should be the other way. The rest of the photo should be in color with only her shirt in black and white.
Damien Symonds
Lol, yeah, invert the mask!
Leslie Vu
lol.... my bad. I was in a hurry this morning getting out the house I didn't even think. How about this? It's gray but not black....
Damien Symonds
Yes, and you said grey was an option. The next step is to add a Hue/Saturation layer, and clip it (Cmd Opt G) to the Channel Mixer layer. Then lower its Lightness slider to your taste.
