amyshergold
Ok so Ive tried various ways to fix this background but all of them look leave the baby looking like he is fake or floating. How would you recommend fixing this? This is SOOC. I need to do a few other things of course but I want to know if I can save the background first. Thanks
Samantha LaRue
I'd try either this method: http://www.damiensymonds.net/2011/10/blanket-fade-tutorial.html Or this one: http://www.damiensymonds.net/2012/10/using-photoshops-gradient-layer.html They are both essentially the same method, just one with a solid color layer, and the other with a gradient. And don't forget to add a noise layer at the end: http://www.damiensymonds.net/tut_noise.html

amyshergold
Ha ha yes I know the foreground too! Blanket was over Dad to get baby to settle so very messy. Hoping I can save it! ive tried both methods above but baby ends up looking like its floating. Hmmmm
Damien Symonds
This is not related to your question, but is troubling ... your file is "untagged". When saving jpegs (either for web, or any other purpose) ALWAYS make sure the "embed profile" checkbox is checked.
Damien Symonds
This is the best I can manage:
amyshergold
wow can you please share your process so that I can fix it for my client. your skills are awesome!
Damien Symonds
Yay, I'm glad you like it! The fix isn't technically complex, but will take a lot of time and patience. Don't expect to achieve it quickly. Download the PSD file First, a dodge and burn layer to even out the wrinkles in front a bit. Then a radial gradient layer. Mask it completely around the child. At this point, the child will seem like it's "floating", exactly as you said. After that, use a very low opacity black brush on the mask to gently reveal a bit of the blanket texture in front, as I did. Finally, the noise layer to prevent banding. If any of the above is unfamiliar to you, I beg you to consider my little Layers & Masks Class. It's very cheap, but will open up worlds of skills to you.

amyshergold
This is a really quick go I had. I think I get how to do it better now. Just need to spend a bit more time to get it right. Really appreciate your help.
