Fix background distraction

Hi there, this is a picture of my friend's kid that I took for her and she's asked if it's possible to tone down the bright colours of the bike on the left of the picture.  I thought I'd try and go one step further and remove it but I'm finding it difficult to make it look realistic.

Are you able to offer any suggestions to help me fix this?  Should I just go with a whole new background?
