Bold, Deep, Clear Edit

I'd love to learn how the edits on the current and previous profile pictures were edited from this photographer here:

I like the clean editing, but with the bolder/deeper colors. It seems to have both a softness and a clearness that I cannot figure out how to achieve. 

Here is my image with a darker background and directional lighting as in the sample.

(I raw processed it, but I just finished reading through the raw class, so I'm new at this!)

I think it's mainly characterised by the nice dark (but gentle) vignette.  And the very aggressive skin smoothing of course.
