lisdenimjeans
My former Father in Law has just passed away suddenly from a brain tumor. I have several photos that I've scanned and would like to have printed for my kids and MIL. There are some scratches and a lot of "dust spots" that I would like to remove. I would also love to remove the "noise" aka crap in the background if possible. What is the best way to go about this? Is there a quick method to remove the white specks without spending hours with the healing brush? Any help appreciated. Thank you!
Damien Symonds
How happy are you with the accuracy of the scans? The second and fourth photos have a lot of black areas with very little visible detail - is that an accurate representation of the prints?
lisdenimjeans
Perhaps the second one is not a good representation, but I have given the originals to my ex-husband, so unfortunately this is what I have to work with now.
Damien Symonds
Oh darn If this ever comes up again, follow these guidelines. Anyway ... lisdenimjeans
Thank you! Is there a good way to remove the red and yellow tints on the second one? And a way to remove the background?

Well, yes, by re-scanning it. But if that isn't an option, I suppose you'll have to try gentle desaturation. 30 minutes ago, lisdenimjeans said: And a way to remove the background? One does not simply "remove" a background. One "replaces" a background. So, you need to tell me what you want to replace it with.
lisdenimjeans
Maybe make it solid, like a white wall?
Damien Symonds
No, white would be too stark, I think. It would be better to go black. Simply add a black Solid Color adjustment layer, and mask it carefully around. Don't forget the Shift Key.
