Damien Symonds
@Gabby Jeffcoat, can you remind me which calibrator you have?
Gabby Jeffcoat
I am using Spyder5Pro
Damien Symonds
Thanks. And still a Mac desktop computer?
Gabby Jeffcoat
That's Correct! The only different thing I did was upgrade the Spyder software.
Damien Symonds
Ok. So when you're at this stage ... ... you're having to take "Current" down to 20.1 to get a print match?
Gabby Jeffcoat
So I did part 1 which is manually match screen brightness to print then. Part 2&3 as the instructions and then yes it paused here at Brightness and my current was at 20.1.
Damien Symonds
Wow. 20 is only about a quarter of the brightness of how a screen should normally be. Is that how it looks and feels to you as well?
Gabby Jeffcoat
I looks darker than what I would like. I only tapped brightness down 2 times. Its down to 1 little square ( not sure what to call it) I would keep it a 3 before.
Damien Symonds
I'm always so regretful to say this, but there might be a problem with the calibrator. Is there another computer in the house that you can try calibrating, to see if it also gives you a weirdly low brightness result?
Gabby Jeffcoat
I have only calibrated my screen at night time before. I will this tonight keeping the same manual brightness. Yes I have an older iMac I can try on.
Damien Symonds
2 minutes ago, Gabby Jeffcoat said: I have only calibrated my screen at night time before. Calibrating your screen at night time is fine, as long as the artificial light in your room is as bright as daylight. There should be no (well, negligible) difference in the light around your computer 24/7. 3 minutes ago, Gabby Jeffcoat said: Yes I have an older iMac I can try on. Yeah, see how it goes. Gabby Jeffcoat
Okay I am a little confused. Should I have a dark room for calibration or should I have lights on? I have done it with dark room (after manually adjusting brightness to match print) Sorry I don't know why I am now getting confused.
Damien Symonds
Dark room for calibration is useful, but IMMEDIATELY after the calibration is finished you must turn the lights back up to full brightness (or open the blinds, or whatever) so that you can compare the screen to prints in proper bright lighting.
