'Camera Raw editing is not enabled' message

Recommended Posts

I recently updated my Bridge/Camera Raw/Photoshop - and now my Ctrl R (or open in Camera raw) won't work. I can (Ctrl O) open which then goes through opening Photoshop, but prefer the former option to work.  These are all raw images, that pre updating worked just fine.

I have a currently up to date paid version of creative cloud. I don't use Lightroom so that is not installed/updated.

I did a google search, but the 'fix' (open Photoshop, open bridge, close bridge, open bridge, and it works) doesn't work for me.

I'm hoping it's just something I missed in preferences, but.. I haven't found the solution.. yet

In that case, you'd better try resetting Bridge's preferences.

This one didn't work. I am working on a few images in Photoshop, so I will try resetting Photoshop once I'm finished. (As I cannot remember all my preferences, and don't want anything to change till I'm done lol)

At least I have the Bridge course to redo what I just undid..  :(

Hopefully that works, because if not, the next option is to reset Photoshop's preferences.

I appreciate these suggestions, sadly, I still have the problem. I will contact Adobe tomorrow. I cannot figure it out.

Luckily Ctrl O works, just a bit more tedious when I don't need Photoshop for the image

@Damien Symonds

I just finished with Adobe Support

And what they told me that this is the way it is going to be from now on.

You have to go through Photoshop to use Camera Raw (aka Ctrl O works (or double clicking) or any 'open') but Ctrl R or open with Camera raw won't work anymore

Two things they said when I asked them 'why'

"Bridge is a kind of file explorer, like you open any file from file explorer it might need a particular form of app for opening it, similarly for opening certain format files from Bridge to Camera Raw, Photoshop is necessarily required. The option to open Camera Raw in Bridge does work but it needs Photoshop for it as Camera Raw is a part of Photoshop, it is a plugin in Photoshop whereas it is not a part of Bridge, Bridge is just a kind of file explorer."

And when I mentioned I wasn't excited to have to have Photoshop open to do simple things that only require bridge and camera raw they said.

"I understand how much frustrating it might be for you. I will surely forward this to our developers to let them know that how this particular change has affected our users and you may also report this on https://www.adobe.com/products/wishform.html . I again apologize for the inconvenience caused to you due to this and you may revert back to a previous version to fix this and wait till the next update so that our developers would check this and make it as per customer needs in next update."

It's not the end of the world to constantly have to have Photoshop open to use Bridge and Camera Raw, but it seems unnecessary to me.

What a load of old nonsense.  Ctrl R is still working perfectly for me.

I agree with you.

The Adobe support person could feel my 'this is rubbish' attitude.

Another I have tried is uninstalling Camera raw and then reinstalling it separately through Adobe (and not through creative cloud) (found that in another google search) - not that it helped

A suggestion they gave me was to open photoshop.. open a raw photo.. then telling it to open in bridge. Which of course worked, but again.. my goal is to not have to go through Photoshop at all

I am only mentioning these things in case someone does a search with the same issue (finds this post) and wants to try all the options I have.

It's been a frustrating time, I will revert to an older version - or work with photoshop open... for now.
