JaimeHolt Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Hello, I am looking to see if it would be possible to hire you to help me with some of my output functions with photoshop. I've noticed over the last few months my file sizes are much smaller than they have been in the past so I am looking to figure out if there is a button I somehow clicked or if there was an update that changed my settings. Ive looked through what I understand but I am not sure if there is something I am missing. I hope this makes sense. The file size in the past has been around the size of 13-20MB and now they are around the size of 2-3 MB. The dimensions are the same as well as the equipment being used. Thank you so much for your time, -Jaime Holt
Damien Symonds Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Hi @JaimeHolt, what kind of files are we talking about? Raws? Jpegs? Tiffs?
JaimeHolt Posted November 30, 2023 Author Posted November 30, 2023 jpegs. I originally capture them in RAW and save as a new jpeg in photoshop.
Damien Symonds Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 You have to understand that smaller jpeg file size is often a GOOD thing, not a bad thing. https://www.damiensymonds.net/2015/08/about-jpeg-file-size.html
Damien Symonds Posted November 30, 2023 Posted November 30, 2023 Also, can you read this and confirm that your workflow is correct? https://www.damiensymonds.net/2010/02/trash-those-jpegs.html
JaimeHolt Posted November 30, 2023 Author Posted November 30, 2023 Yes, so sorry. Had to head to work and planned to read the articles on my break first thing. 1
JaimeHolt Posted December 1, 2023 Author Posted December 1, 2023 I read both articles and have some adjusting to do to my process as I cropped during the editing process. Both articles were explained very nicely and I plan to go through and read more to improve. However the cropping is something I have always done so it still makes me wonder what settings I may have going on that have changed.
Damien Symonds Posted December 1, 2023 Posted December 1, 2023 Next, I need you to post two photos for me. One big example and one small example. Then also post 100% crops from each photo. https://damiensymonds.net/2013/09/grabbing-700x700px-100-crop.html
