Lindsay Walden
I frequently have trouble with moire specifically when shooting in studio with this dress. What is the best method for either preventing it in the future or fixing it in post. Thank you!
Damien Symonds
I don't know how to prevent it, sorry. Fixing will be darn tricky. Are you able to process the raw file without any shadow clipping in the dress?
Lindsay Walden
Yes. There is no shadow clipping on the dress currently. Would working in 16 bit make a difference?

Lindsay Walden
Oh goodness. I was looking for the clipping warnings which were not showing up. Yes. There is some room to take that down. It didn't appear to make a difference on the moire.
Damien Symonds
No, it won't make any difference to the moire, but it might make all the difference to fixing the moire. May I see it?
Lindsay Walden
Here it is with shadow clipping completely removed SOOR.
Damien Symonds
Thanks. May I have the new 100% crop now?

Damien Symonds
Ok, try this ... First, add a Channel Mixer adjustment layer, check the "Monochrome" box, and enter 0/0/+150/0 for the four sliders. It will turn the photo black-and-white. Loosely mask it to the problem areas. Then, add a Levels layer and clip it to the Channel Mixer layer. Enter these values: Red channel 0/1.00/150 and 25/255 Green channel 20/1.00/255 and 0/125 Blue channel 5/1.00/255 and 0/180 Then return to the Channel Mixer layer and tidy up the mask as needed. Damien Symonds
Oh, crap, sorry! I forgot to mention, at the end, lower the opacity of the Channel Mixer layer to about 75%.
Lindsay Walden
Do I need to do this on the SOOR image or am I safe to work on my already edited PSD?
Damien Symonds
The result should look like this: Just now, Lindsay Walden said: Do I need to do this on the SOOR image or am I safe to work on my already edited PSD? Whatever you gave me. That 100% crop, was it from the SOOR or the edit?
Lindsay Walden
SOOR. Crumb.
Damien Symonds
It's irrelevant anyway. Since you changed your SOOR, you have to re-edit, period.
