  1. This style is just not my thing but it would give me a very different look in a gallery. I sent it over to the mom and she liked it much better than mine but I did up the lightness to zero. I just felt it was a bit dark. For future people looking at the post, (when the big file link expires) Damien added a hue/saturation layer 0% saturation -40 lightness with soft light and a solid fill color#99664d set to hue at 60%. I never would have considered the hue/saturation at 0% in soft light. I have to get the gallery out so I will take your edit and mix them in so there is some variety. Thanks
  2. She gave the usual woman answer, "either is fine". I pressed her and she prefers the muted edit, husband the color pop. So I am going to do a mix in the gallery. Is there a simple way to add more of a brown hue or tone?
  3. The muted colors thing is not my style at all. I gave it a shot but not happy with the result. This is my normal edit, then desaturate the reds and greens, gradient map Brown (8c6510) to white normal 5%, and a black and white gradient map soft light 68% and finally a subject only levels midtone boost 1.08. Clearly, that style is just not my thing,
  4. Thats a really good point. She sent me 6 and they are all earth tones, grays, whites and tans
  5. I am not smart enough to figure out how to edit the post, nor delete and start over. Suggestions? Here is the page link: https://www.joannecookphotography.com.au/darwin-family-photography-blog/r9pfnyckp75uhiw4bzejjg2o7jurl9
  6. I had a family send me a pinterest selection and nearly all of them had a brown tone similar to this: Not really my editing style so I came to master for help. Here is my family. Can you assist?
  7. Let me ask a different way, I cant see the amount of high pass as the layers are not smart layers. Are we talking something like 100, 50, 10?
  8. I think the dragan is more what I am searching for. What determines the Broadest, medium and narrow radius?
  9. Hey Big D, I want to get a bit more variety in my sports looks and was looking for suggestions on a grunge look. I had to look far and wide to find an image close to home with the look I was going for: https://photofocus.com/photography/sportscompositept1/ I want to give this image that grunge look. Got any suggestions?
  10. I am quite sure I would not have come up with that solution on my own. I guess I better get to finishing up the levels class so I can get in the advanced levels then skin then channel mixer.
  11. That certainly is better than I was expecting and that had to be some seriously precise masking. Wanna share how to do it?
  12. Hard family session. 15 knot winds, blowing sand, a baby that does NOT like full sun got me this image. What do you suggest to bring the 2 halves more in harmony?
  13. Holy cow batman! Is it just experience that tells you those numbers or is it covered in the color portion of the levels class?
  14. I screwed up, I admit it. The boy in moms lap was "squirmy". When I looked at the back of the camera, I saw the flare above dad, I can clone stamp that not a problem. I did not notice the flare in the grass. I dont think I can clone that. Help?
  15. Sure, this image is part of a graduation shoot and mom absolutely needed this one today. (Had to order personalized stuff for the ceremony) I need to finish the session and then plan on getting into the new raw class Thursday. Oh, and I did a crappy job of fixing it by photoshop guru standards. A combination of frequency separation, there was some color blurring, clone stamping ... had to be done today.
  16. sorry, it was 2 am. here is the raw edit.
  17. shame on me for not noticing the slightly sheer blouse and sexy bra. I have tried a solid color layer, that looked horrible. Tried painting on a color layer, no effect. I tried a clone stamp, that was not God awful but lining up the groves in the material is a nightmare. Took a shot at the channel mixer but I can't quite get the blue out of the spots. Is there hope for this?
  18. My netflix monitor that I got used in 2005 finally died (power light but just a black screen). My editing monitor is a dell s2419nx but I guess that is an outdated monitor and this is as close as I can find: https://deals.dell.com/en-us/productdetail/d83x IPS, anti glare okay for a backup monitor? Or should I look for something more?
  19. Sigh, you win, my room is too dark. With the windows open, the black point is right. So, I can edit just fine at night in my dark room but calibration is a day time only thing for me huh?
  20. Wow, I recall you wanting the curtains closed so that there is consistency in the room light. Let me wake up the sun and get back to you.
  21. yes i have windows - sliding glass doors - vertical blinds are closed, most editing is done at night anyway.
  22. You said my room was too dark. I am trying to compare my lighting with yours. Since I can't see your room to gauge the amount of light in your room versus mine, I was hoping to use camera settings to see how much darker my room is. Your shutter speed should be a lot faster than mine if your room is a lot brighter...right?
  23. I got side tracked with life but want to revisit this dark room thing, Since I can't see your room. nor you mine, can you set your camera to f8 iso 200 and tell the shutter speed on a flat white sheet of paper? Mine is 80.
  24. I calibrated with a setting of 70, you said don't go lower than that. I guess I will just have to push the shadows and brightness as much as I can, certainly more than I have been. We can talk more next week in the raw class.
  25. I have gotten prints from Bay, Nations, White House, and my local drug store. My screen is not putting as much black in the image as the prints are. I tried to play with the gamma but that changes colors. Is there anything else I can try?
