  1. Let me ask a different way, I cant see the amount of high pass as the layers are not smart layers. Are we talking something like 100, 50, 10?
  2. I think the dragan is more what I am searching for. What determines the Broadest, medium and narrow radius?
  3. Hey Big D, I want to get a bit more variety in my sports looks and was looking for suggestions on a grunge look. I had to look far and wide to find an image close to home with the look I was going for: https://photofocus.com/photography/sportscompositept1/ I want to give this image that grunge look. Got any suggestions?
  4. I am quite sure I would not have come up with that solution on my own. I guess I better get to finishing up the levels class so I can get in the advanced levels then skin then channel mixer.
  5. That certainly is better than I was expecting and that had to be some seriously precise masking. Wanna share how to do it?
  6. Hard family session. 15 knot winds, blowing sand, a baby that does NOT like full sun got me this image. What do you suggest to bring the 2 halves more in harmony?
  7. Holy cow batman! Is it just experience that tells you those numbers or is it covered in the color portion of the levels class?
  8. I screwed up, I admit it. The boy in moms lap was "squirmy". When I looked at the back of the camera, I saw the flare above dad, I can clone stamp that not a problem. I did not notice the flare in the grass. I dont think I can clone that. Help?
  9. Sure, this image is part of a graduation shoot and mom absolutely needed this one today. (Had to order personalized stuff for the ceremony) I need to finish the session and then plan on getting into the new raw class Thursday. Oh, and I did a crappy job of fixing it by photoshop guru standards. A combination of frequency separation, there was some color blurring, clone stamping ... had to be done today.
  10. sorry, it was 2 am. here is the raw edit.
  11. shame on me for not noticing the slightly sheer blouse and sexy bra. I have tried a solid color layer, that looked horrible. Tried painting on a color layer, no effect. I tried a clone stamp, that was not God awful but lining up the groves in the material is a nightmare. Took a shot at the channel mixer but I can't quite get the blue out of the spots. Is there hope for this?
  12. My netflix monitor that I got used in 2005 finally died (power light but just a black screen). My editing monitor is a dell s2419nx but I guess that is an outdated monitor and this is as close as I can find: https://deals.dell.com/en-us/productdetail/d83x IPS, anti glare okay for a backup monitor? Or should I look for something more?
  13. Sigh, you win, my room is too dark. With the windows open, the black point is right. So, I can edit just fine at night in my dark room but calibration is a day time only thing for me huh?
  14. Wow, I recall you wanting the curtains closed so that there is consistency in the room light. Let me wake up the sun and get back to you.
  15. yes i have windows - sliding glass doors - vertical blinds are closed, most editing is done at night anyway.
  16. You said my room was too dark. I am trying to compare my lighting with yours. Since I can't see your room to gauge the amount of light in your room versus mine, I was hoping to use camera settings to see how much darker my room is. Your shutter speed should be a lot faster than mine if your room is a lot brighter...right?
  17. I got side tracked with life but want to revisit this dark room thing, Since I can't see your room. nor you mine, can you set your camera to f8 iso 200 and tell the shutter speed on a flat white sheet of paper? Mine is 80.
  18. I calibrated with a setting of 70, you said don't go lower than that. I guess I will just have to push the shadows and brightness as much as I can, certainly more than I have been. We can talk more next week in the raw class.
  19. I have gotten prints from Bay, Nations, White House, and my local drug store. My screen is not putting as much black in the image as the prints are. I tried to play with the gamma but that changes colors. Is there anything else I can try?
  20. I really want to get into the raw class but not until I get the screen/print issue resolved. Let me get a set from White house
  21. Yeah I read your post, that prompted me to look at nations. Can you look at the original jpeg and tell me if the left side is as dark as what the print shows?https://www.rightmovephoto.com/p993328276/ec3434915
  22. You know, I was wondering about that. I have used Bay photo for years so I thought, maybe I should check with another lab. This image is from Nations photo. I also got a set from the local drug store that is not as dark but still fairly dark.
  23. I bought the elite and recalibrated but I am still fighting the blacks in the images, at least the ones that are shot with a lot of contrast. I would appreciate any suggestions you might can give. I took a crappy cell phone shot of the print so that you can see the difference that I am facing.https://www.rightmovephoto.com/p993328276/ec3434915
  24. No not really. I just accepted that that was the way that it was. I was just hoping for more of a wysiwyg with the prints. I could get the result I want if I increase the shadows slider but don’t know how much to increase without getting a print first.
  25. I have the spyder 5 express. I am happy with the color, but the prints are dark. I don't mean brightness, I mean the black point. On my monitor, the darks show texture but the prints just about wipe it out. Will a better version of Spyder allow me to adjust the black point, 'cause if I need a new calibrator, I would prefer to get it this tax year.
