  1. I'm shopping around for a first-time laptop for my daughter, who will be a freshman in college studying biomedical engineering but also likes to take pictures and use Photoshop. I have only ever used a desktop. We were shopping around and came across this Dell workstation. Do you have any insight on the specs? Please advise. Thank you very much. 2. Thank you so much for all your advice and your time! I have had the computer for a week, and I'm still sorting windows 11 out along with photoshop. I don't think I have sorted it out yet, and I'll have to keep asking questions on this form. Thank you for all your patience.
  3. Hi, my new XPS Desktop 8950 comes tomorrow. I'm excited but know how daunting the task of setting up will be. I am not computer savvy. I also got a new monitor nand the spyder X Elite My current desktop is running: PS 20.06 Bridge 12.01.246 ACR 14.2.0 LR CC 2015 10.0.19043 Should I install all the latest versions of Adobe? (I pray the tools haven't changed too much) And should I create all new workspace/preferences from scratch? Any things that I should trash immediately that may have come preinstalled? Is there a thread I can visit to read about the management of operating this new PC to keep her happy and moving fast? In one thread you mentioned where you store/download things to your D drive to keep your C drive from getting bogged down with crap. Do you have a list of such things that you have on your D drive? Or a list of things that are not necessary to put on your C drive? Thank you!
  4. Thanks, Brian. I was on the phone with one Rep ordering/asking questions trying to customize it a little. And towards the end of our call, when I was about to pull the trigger, we got disconnected. I had to start over with the next rep and was like, screw it, upgrade to the 64 GB and the processor to Intel K. I Ended up with Windows 11 pro, and I can't remember why. Added the 2yr protection. No mouse, no keyboard. And I put the brakes on with the monitor while I breathe into a paper bag. I will get that recommended adapter for my current monitor and slow my roll for a little. The way technology is rolling, I didn't want to be in the same jam a few years down the road struggling with a 32 GB. I hope and pray I made the right decisions. Thanks for your advice. Here are the Specs—$ 2,932.64 before tax. Video Card NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080, 10 GB GDDR6X Processor 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-12700K (25 MB cache, 12 cores, 20 threads, 3.60 to 5.00 GHz Turbo) Operating System Windows 11 Pro, English Memory 64 GB, 2 x 32 GB, DDR5, 4400 MHz; up to 128 GB (add'l mem sold separately) Hard Drive 1 TB, M.2, PCIe NVMe, SSD Hardware Support Services 2Y ProSupport for PCs NextBusinessDay OnsiteService after RemoteDiagnosis-for business October 10 is the estimated delivery. I'll add the monitor to my wish list 😉 Hopefully, now, my 3rd party plugins will work, and I can batch edit with ease.
  5. Hi Brian. Just double checking on that sliver dell. NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080, 10 GB GDDR6X ?? IS this graphic card better or comparable to the one you recommend? ANd your link to the monitor you would purchase doesn't take me to the correct place. I appreciate all your time and your advise. Jen

  8. Thanks Brian. I agree, it's time to upgrade to a modern PC. If anything, my current machine will be used as insurance should my new one have a hiccup. I would really like to get more memory than 16GB. I'm leaning towards the Dell I linked, but I am not confident I have all the specs correct. Can you double check it? This whole Windows 11 home vs pro? And the Nvidia listed says 3080 not 3070? 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-12700 processor (12-Core, 25MB Cache, 2.1GHz to 4.9GHz) Windows 11 Home, English NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 3080, 10 GB GDDR6X 32 GB, 2 x 16 GB, DDR5, 4400 MHz; up to 128 GB (add'l mem sold separately) 1 TB, M.2, PCIe NVMe, SSD 750W Platinum Silver Bezel Chassis including optical drive Ports & Slots Suggestions on their offers for their Security Software Mcafee ? 11. I saw you recommended this computer on another thread. Is this still your top pick if you recommend I go the route of buying new? https://www.digitalstorm.com/configurator.asp?id=4387425
  12. Hi. I guess I needed to do something. I appreciate your willingness to give me advice on making a wise decision. It was a build of some sort. My motherboard did crash in 1999 and a work friend of my husband replaced it and fixed it up. Motherboard? Samsung 860 EVO https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-1TB-860-SATA-2-5IN/dp/B078WST5RK
  13. Oh, Bummer!! Thank you for your response. Is there a thread for recommendations on what video card and power supply upgrade to buy?
  14. Hi. I was able to run these plugins for a few days, and now I am getting errors. Initially, I got an OpenCL error when working with the plugin and had to change the value of the attribute ailayersFlags to 1. I have been cleaning, downloading, uploading, uninstalling, and spending WAYYY too much time on YouTube. I am at a loss. Why would they stop working? I have attached screenshots of my errors and computer health. Any advice? 15. Okay! Let me get this set up. I'll revisit the modules. I just don't want to get my work-space set up w/out asking a bunch of silly questions. This version looks a bit different. I need to get my eyes straight. What values of custom grey do you set your canvas too?
  16. Okay! I'm still in the RAW class?? I've been absent for the last month due to family. Will I find info there, or do you recommend another class?
  17. Thanks! I just downloaded the latest version. Now the daunting task of setting it up. Do you have a thread w/ any basic set-up?
  18. I had to have my hard-drive replaced and in the process of downloading photo-shop and LR to my computer. I could swear I was running CC2014 but don't see that as an option. What version do you recommend downloading? I didn't care for the latest version CC2019. Thanks!
  19. Yes, but I like them like that. They seemed washed out on my print.
  20. For this example, the blanket and her skin look more pink/vibrant on my screen. The blacks seem deeper, too. The print from WHCC is more pale and the blacks aren't as deep. It's like this will all her prints.
  21. The brightness seems fine. I feel in PS my prints are more vivid/red nice blacks then compared to my WHCC prints.
  22. I went to Lowe's and could only find bulbs that were 5000k or 3000k. Would would you choose? Should I just worry about the lumens? I'm going to have trouble getting enough brightness no matter what because of my little ceiling fan fixture. I'll have to add some lamps to the room.
