Thumbnails won't generate in PSE 15

I got my 5DMIII in February and have been using PSE 15 without any problems since February. But now, all of a sudden, the thumbnails won't generate in the Organizer. I don't think I've done anything different with my camera, PSE, or computer settings. I cleaned, emptied every cache I could find, ran CCleaner and defragged. What's the deal?

Hi Jo, can you still see thumbnails of older images?  Is it just the newest photos that won't generate?  Or can you not see any thumbnails at all?

I can see the old ones, just not the new ones.

 

PSE is fully updated as well.

Interesting.  But you can still open the files ok?

Yes. I can open them and edit them just fine. I still have an older version of PSE, and the thumbnails are fine there.

And is it only the raw files?  Once you edit and save as a PSD, you can see the thumbnail of that ok?

No. The jpg and the xmp files don't show. It shows the little arrow that shows there is a version stack, but no picture.

A jpeg that you saved after editing? Or did you shoot Raw+Jpeg in camera?

This is starting to point to something about the import process.  How did you get the photos from camera to computer; and did you change your method in any way, recently?

Imported the same way as always. I don't even know another way to do it. I plugged the card into the card slot in front of the computer. I only shot RAW, but save the edited file as a jpg.

How many sets of images have this problem?

Yes. I have the files on both the sd and the cf cards. I haven't imported by hooking the camera up directly.

It's happening with 2 different cards.

I will stop saving as a jpeg! I remember seeing this early on in the beginning, but filed it away as overwhelming!

I hooked the camera up to the computer and I used a USB card reader. Neither worked. I'm out of ideas! Should I delete the software and re-install?

Could you send me one of the files, to see if I can see a thumbnail of it?

I forgot to ask - does Windows show you the thumbnail?

Yes. Windows 10 shows the thumbnails. As does PSE 11.

From what I'm reading, this is a very common problem, with no reliable solution.  Did you see this page?  Also, do you have any older versions of Elements still installed on your computer?

I can't help giving you a big fat "I told you so".  Organizer has always been a terrible feature, and NOBODY should use it.  If you're ready to make the change, watch this then this.

Sorry, I have taken so long to reply. I've been at the hospital with a sick granny. I hadn't seen that page. I'll try it. Also, I will install Bridge and learn to use it. I had installed it before, but hadn't wanted to have to learn something else. I'm cranky in my old age, you know. I'll do better. Thanks so much for everything!
