If you're not going to keep the corner of the room, there was no need to distort the photo at all.

I reckon you should extend the lighter coloured wall, and ignore the bit of shadowing.

Gosh no!  Cloning is not necessary.  Just run the gradient right over it.

Will this mean masking all around his back, head, pillow etc?

You could if you like, but with the right use of gradients, it shouldn't be necessary.
