Josie Stahl
I love how this looks. Would it work on my photo? I tried an overlay like in your rich orange look but it doesn't look like the linked photo at all. Here are two more photos with the look I want: https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fglavcom.ua%2Fimg%2Fgallery%2F4194%2F36%2F250164_main.jpg&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fglavcom.ua%2Fphoto%2Fdivovizhni-fotografiji-yaki-zobrazhuyut-nevinnist-i-prostotu-ditinstva-419436.html&docid=2Im7eeIgkx8TzM&tbnid=Ocx14B3IyXSZkM%3A&vet=10ahUKEwihhY7svY3YAhVL0oMKHXzMBPUQMwgoKAEwAQ..i&w=713&h=509&itg=1&hl=en&bih=968&biw=1704&q=award winning images photography&ved=0ahUKEwihhY7svY3YAhVL0oMKHXzMBPUQMwgoKAEwAQ&iact=mrc&uact=8 My attempt looks nothing like the above. Damien Symonds
Before attempting any colour work, it goes without saying that you need to do the blur. https://www.damiensymonds.net/2010/06/blurring-background-false-dof.html
Josie Stahl
Unsure how much to blur so it still looks all right.
Damien Symonds
A lot more than that. To match the links you provided, I mean.
Josie Stahl
How does this look? How do I mask around the hair?
Damien Symonds
Very very carefully.
Josie Stahl
Huh. No shortcuts. I don't think I'll be doing this background blur often.
Damien Symonds
Good. Now add this Levels layer: Red 85/1.50/255 Green 0/0.45/255 and 30/255 Blue 0/0.55/255 Then with a 10% brush, mask gently off the subjects to your taste.

Damien Symonds
I'd hoped for a bit more masked off the subjects, particularly their skin, to be honest.

Initially I liked it. But an hour later I thought the same thing.
Josie Stahl
How about now? I also tired to add back some of the bokeh in the trees that was lost by the blur.
