Sarah_
I have just gone back and masked the Gradient Fill 1 layer more closely, and tweaked the gradient colours again. I can't get Gradient Fill 3 to help much - can you please let me know what I'm doing wrong?
Damien Symonds
Gradient 3 must need to be darker. And have you moved it across so it's centred on that shadow area on the left?
Sarah_
Thanks. How's this? Darkened & moved over.
Damien Symonds
The background behind the lower left part of the tree is still darker than the gradient, isn't it?
Sarah_
Yes it is. I'm making it darker now.
Sarah_
I can't seem to get the colour right - or very close.
Damien Symonds
That might be as close as you'll get, eh? Looks like the centre of it needs to be moved down a bit.
Damien Symonds
Sometimes I find I have to take the scale down really small - like 20% or something - so I can get the gradient centred exactly where I want it. Then take the scale back up again.
Sarah_
Thanks - you're right. How's this?
Damien Symonds
Yep! It'll still need some gentle masking around the tree, but much less arduous now.
Sarah_
It looks like I have to mask the original 'Gradient Fill 1' layer - is this correct?
Damien Symonds
That's right.
Sarah_
Is this precise enough?
Damien Symonds
I would say so, yes. Now it's just a matter of blending into the floor, yes?
Sarah_
Ok. Here goes... It feels quite heavy to me.
Damien Symonds
It should blend mode a bit more gradually, I think?
Sarah_
Do you mean change to multiply like your layer or by adjusting the arrows in the Gradient Editor panel? (Or something different)?
Damien Symonds
Oh, sorry, no, I literally just meant the masking. Blend it more gradually downwards.
Sarah_
Thanks. Just to confirm - are we still talking about the 'Gradient Fill 1' layer?
Damien Symonds
Yep.
Sarah_
How's this? Note: I have turned the darker 'Gradient Fill 3' layer off.
Sarah_
This is it with the GF3 layer switched on...
Damien Symonds
Longer, even? Like, partway down his shin?
Sarah_
I feel like I'm going backwards / making it really scratchy.
