Glynda horsfall
Hello Damien hope you & your family had a good holiday . As you know I've had a issue with my scratch disc I was told the other day to free up some space when I down load my photos size them at web size is this so . Mine are like large like 4000x2000 would that help at all . Cheers
Damien Symonds
Oh no, you must never never never do that! That would be catastrophic. Always preserve every precious pixel your camera captures. To free up space on your hard drive, move the photos you're no longer editing onto two external hard drives. Do you own two external hard drives? Glynda horsfall
Yes Damien I do have 2 external drives .
Damien Symonds
Great! And are they exact copies of each other? Every file that's on one of them is also on the other?
Glynda horsfall
?????? no but they will from now on
Damien Symonds
It's so important, you know? We can never trust any form of digital storage to be safe ... in fact, it's best to assume that every drive could fail tomorrow. So never keep only one copy of your important files. Glynda horsfall
Ok Damien thank you very much I'll get on to that straight away .
Damien Symonds
Please stop posting new threads about the same old issues. Have you cleared some space off your hard drive yet? How much space is free now?
Damien Symonds
Please answer my question. How much free space have you cleared off your internal hard drive?
Glynda horsfall
I don't really know yet , I'll check it after tea . I am so over it , I am going home in 3 mths I think I'll get my son to fix it for me .
Damien Symonds
Don't get confused by the term "Scratch Disk". It's not some mysterious extra hard drive hidden on your computer. It simply refers to the amount of free space on your hard drive; and it sounds very much like you don't have enough free space.
Glynda horsfall
I've got 8.5GB free I had some one have a look at it 2day
Damien Symonds
Yeah, that's nowhere near enough. Ten times that would barely be enough, in fact. You have to get some files off there onto your backup drives.
Damien Symonds
How did you go, @Glynda horsfall? Have you made some space on your hard drive?
Glynda horsfall
Hello Damien my PC only had a 500GB hard drive so I sent it ofto the doctors to get a 1TB hard drive in it so hopefully that will fix the problem.
Damien Symonds
Yes indeed, that should help for a while. But be careful of your storage practices, otherwise the clutter that filled your 500GB will do the same to your 1TB.
Glynda horsfall
Yes I have to go through my photos and cull them , I take 5 at a time so I need to be careful & cull them .
