How do I fix these feet? I have tried the usual method of a new layer using your dodge and burn but I end up in a hot mess? Obviously very shallow DOF here.

Oh gee.  Tough one!!

This is about the best I can offer, would it be good enough?

As you said, D&B is really hard in this case.  The colour goes all screwy.  So instead I used Channel Mixer to make a black-and-white version, THEN did some D&B on top of that.  D&B is so much easier in black-and-white.

I had a feeling you might say channel mixer was the answer and of course I keep getting stuck on about the fourth slide in the class because my brain can't compute that stuff.
