jcashin Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 I've always used Lightroom before and I have made the switch to Bridge and ACR since taking Damien's classes. However, I don't know how to backup my files now. Can you point me in the right direction? I am a Mac user. My operating system is High Sierra, Version 10.13.6 Thanks.
Damien Symonds Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 How have you backed up before now? It shouldn't be any different.
jcashin Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 I used the path that Lightroom suggested. There's an option in Lightroom that allows you to set up a schedule for backups. I haven't found that option in Bridge yet. Sorry if I'm sounding like a total idiot.
Damien Symonds Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 No more of an idiot than any other Lightroom user, I promise. This, in a nutshell, is the problem with Lightroom - its users don't truly know where their files are. Where did you backup to? An external hard drive, or a cloud?
Damien Symonds Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Terrific! And how about your non-photo files? Email attachments, personal documents, that kind of thing? Do you back them up onto that drive too?
jcashin Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 Yes, my system is backed up through Time Machine onto an external hard drive. Will that be sufficient?
Damien Symonds Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Yes ... isn't it? Have you checked? To see that your photos are on there?
jcashin Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 Yes, I just checked and everything is there. Thanks. I keep my photos on an external drive also.

For the main "Macintosh HD" drive, yes. As far as your external drive? Probably not. Time Machine usually ignores external drives, which is a good thing. You don't want Time Machine backing up your Time Machine Drive to itself. That would be bad. If you are really concerned about your main external HD that has all your photos, make a duplicate of it to another EHD and keep that EHD off site. 1
jcashin Posted August 28, 2018 Author Posted August 28, 2018 Thanks, Brian. That's exactly how I do it. Time Machine backs up my HD to an external. I have all my photos on another external. Thanks.
