kathy baxley
When editing photos in Photoshop CC it runs very very slow and takes forever to save an edited photo. Per the list of requirements from Adobe I think I have everything. One of the requirements is an OpenGL 2.0-capable system. How do I determine if I have this capability on my desktop? Samantha LaRue
Can you fill this out please? http://www.damiensymonds.net/thread1.html OpenGL 2.0 has to do with your video card type. I don't think that has anything to do with PS running slowly.
kathy baxley
I have a PC desktop running Windows 7 w/ Service Pack 1 and Photoshop CC 2015. It is over 2 years old, and has 4.0 of RAM. Its hard drive has 1.69 TB free out of 1.81TB. The last time I shut down was just before posting this thread. I rarely run a cleanup program. Damien Symonds
Yeah, it's the 4GB of RAM. That's only half of the minimum that Adobe recommends for CC.

Damien Symonds
Can I ask what camera you have? I mean, how many megapixels does your camera capture? Are you working with particularly huge files?

kathy baxley
I just looked and the image size is set to Large.........I thought I had it set on medium. Guess I should change that.

Guess I should change that. Gee, I can't really condone that. How many megapixels will a medium file be? The manual should tell you, if the menu itself doesn't. Do you shoot raw? kathy baxley
Yes, I have it set on Raw + jpeg fine and medium = 4496x3000: 13.5 M
Damien Symonds
Ok, 13.5 isn't too bad. When you process your raw files, which program do you use?
Damien Symonds
It doesn't matter. What matters is to check that you're working on 8-bit files, not 16-bit files. 16-bit would definitely contribute to the problem you're describing.
kathy baxley
I put the SD card in the computer and view the photos on the card and choose the ones I like and then open it w/ PS and edit from there. I have never been able to figure out a better way......i.e. LR, etc.
Damien Symonds
Ok, can you open one of the files that have been very very slow to save, then show me a screenshot? Of the entire Photoshop screen, including layers panel and everything.

Damien Symonds
Please do this. I'm pretty sure you're safe, but we need to be certain. And PLEASE take the Levels Class. Let me free you from reliance on those shitty actions. Your file has about a zillion layers when half a dozen would do, and that's not helping this problem. Damien Symonds
What!!!?! Gee, I'm glad I checked. Ok, keep following the troubleshooter all the way to its conclusion to fix this problem.
kathy baxley
LOL! OK, I'm set to sRGB IEC61966-2.1 (8bpc) now, thanks! Edited May 11, 2016 by kathy baxley

Watch Damien's videos so you can learn how to transfer your images to your computer before you start editing.
