Jodie Williams
I am trying to replace some background with a solid colour to then add a gradient layer. The solid colour is not showing as a solid colour at 100% opacity, I can still see the background under the colour fill layer. I don't know what is happening as I have never had this problem before. Even if I use a gradient at 100% opacity the background is still transparent.
Damien Symonds
Did you press D to make sure you're truly painting with white?
Damien Symonds
This is not an uncommon problem. Can you do this for me?
Jodie Williams
Yes, painting with white
Damien Symonds
Great. And your brush tool definitely at 100% opacity and fill?
Jodie Williams
I have a PC desktop running windows 10 and Photoshop cc. It is over 2 years old, and has 14GB of RAM. Its hard drive has 383GB free out of 476GB. The last time I shut down was last night. I run a cleanup program about once a week. I added more Ram a few years ago yes everything is at 100% and normal blend mode
Damien Symonds
Great. Well, go ahead and restart, and tell me if the issue still exists.
Jodie Williams
I restarted, it is working properly now, if all else fails just restart
Jodie Williams
Sorry no it not unless I go over it with another colour fill layer.
Damien Symonds
That's not a problem though, is it? You can use the new layer easily enough?
Jodie Williams
No, just an extra small step to take.
Damien Symonds
More importantly, if you use the first layer, and fill its mask with black, then try painting on it again, does it work?
Jodie Williams
Yes, Black is solid and then I can use a gradient layer next in grey, this is working
Damien Symonds
Now, let's talk about the photo itself. Why are you using a Solid Color layer at all?
Jodie Williams
Content aware is not working to extend the background. I also tried to copy and paste the back ground and could not get it to blend correctly.
Damien Symonds
No, I mean why are you using a Solid Color layer? You should be using a Gradient layer.
Jodie Williams
The gradient is doing the same thing as the colour fill so I was trying to fill with colour then add a gradient, which has made the mask now non transparent.
Jodie Williams
The Gradient layer was even more transparent with the back ground then the Colour fill
Damien Symonds
Yes, but you've restarted now, so that problem is fixed, yes?
Jodie Williams
No, only fixed if I add another layer of colour fill or gradient on top of the first. The first mask is still like the image above.
Damien Symonds
Okay .... but if you delete all the layers and start anew, it's ok? There should NOT be a solid color layer involved in this task in any way.
Jodie Williams
No, Still the issue with gradient or colour fill. But together I get a solid fill. I have no other work around until I know what is causing the issue I have. the only option I see is to reload Photoshop but I don't want to loose any of my brushes or actions I have Edited July 31, 2019 by Jodie Williams . Damien Symonds
Please open another photo (any random photo will do) and see if the problem also repeats itself there.
Jodie Williams
it is my brush.
