Minor reason #2: Printing bigger enlargements

There’s more myth than truth here.  To suggest that you can’t produce a large print from a Jpeg file is like a teenager suggesting that it’s impossible to do homework without the internet. Of course you can, kid - we all did!

Photographers have been printing billboards from Jpeg files for years.

Here’s my list of the three things that makes a photo suitable for enlargement:

  • Good focus
  • Low noise
  • “Wow!” factor

All of those things can be achieved with a good Jpeg capture. The file format is irrelevant.
