The best way to mask and replace the background

Recommended Posts

Thanks Damien!  I requested my lab to remake...

This time, I added the noise to the background by doing this => Filter - noise, - add noise - Amount 1% Uniform.

I will see how it turns out.....

Thank you for your help!

I actually had the same issue with the same lab (Bay Photo) last time...

Maybe I should try different lab?   any recommendation for the lab?

Is the best way to remove the father the same way that I did in above?

1) Using brush tool with shift + click and to eliminate the father and 2) add the white background with gradient layer?

No, this is not a two-step process.  Just mask the new background straight over the father.

Ok, so 1) create a new gradient new layer and 2) mask out the father using brush in the same layer?

Hi Damien.  I tried to do your way but was afraid of the banding.

Plus I wanted to make the background whiter...

Could you please see if I did retouch this image okay by looking at my PSD file?

thank you!

too much noise? I only add one layer of noise the way how you do, no?

Is it possible for you to show me how you would have retouch this image using my file I uploaded?

Yes, but it's 20% opacity, WAY too high.  And you didn't clip it to the layer beneath, so it's all over the child etc.

Thank, Damien!  According to this, http://www.damiensymonds.net/tut_noise.html

you used 20% opacity for the noise, no?

Yes, but then I went on to talk at length about examining and adjusting it for your own image's purpose.

For the  first image, which I had an issue with the vertical lines on the print, , do you think the lines appeared because I used 20% opacity?

No.  They appeared because the lab messed up.
