Damien Symonds Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 Talk to me, @Viviana. In what way does your screen differ from your prints?
Viviana Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 To be quite honest, I calibrated the screen a few months ago following your tutorial but I had already printed images which looked awful. (Of course I had no idea about the WB sheet then).I havent tested the calibration again. What do you suggest? Edit a couple of images and send them to print for test or what would be more efficient?
Damien Symonds Posted November 27, 2020 Author Posted November 27, 2020 No, the prints you have are perfectly fine. They don't need to be wonderful prints. Your screen just needs to match them exactly, that's all.
Viviana Posted November 27, 2020 Posted November 27, 2020 Oh ok! then I will re calibrate and compare to the prints and let you know. Thank you!
Damien Symonds Posted November 28, 2020 Author Posted November 28, 2020 It could be argued that it's even more important for your screen to match bad prints, so that in the future you can see that they'll be bad before you print them!
Viviana Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Sorry Damien, I havent had a chance to get back to this. Ive been dealing with bad colds with two kids. I'll be back to you as soon as i can.
Damien Symonds Posted December 2, 2020 Author Posted December 2, 2020 Oh gee. As long as it's only colds! 1
Viviana Posted December 3, 2020 Posted December 3, 2020 They are but they suck! As you must already know. I have a silly question, regarding the prints, I have prints from two different labs, WHCC and Millers. Do i pick one to compare to or does that matter at all? The prints equally terrible lol
Damien Symonds Posted December 4, 2020 Author Posted December 4, 2020 If you can't manage to make your screen match both of them, concentrate mainly on the WHCC ones.
Viviana Posted December 6, 2020 Posted December 6, 2020 Not sure if im over thinking this thing but i spent the whole afternoon today calibrating and i cant seem to get it. My screen looks brighter than the prints. I think this is closest i was able to get it to 6500K. I didnt try method 2 yet. I am annoyed at this point. Thoughts?
Damien Symonds Posted December 6, 2020 Author Posted December 6, 2020 If your screen is too bright, lower the luminance target. 6500K is not the problem there. 100 is the problem.
Damien Symonds Posted December 7, 2020 Author Posted December 7, 2020 Have you recalibrated, @Viviana?
Viviana Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Nope. I just learned today I'm getting a new screen tomorrow. It's a benq. Not sure which model. Do I have to calibrate it following the same steps or what should I be doing?
Damien Symonds Posted December 8, 2020 Author Posted December 8, 2020 Oh, exciting! Benq have a good reputation. Yes, calibrate with the same steps.
Viviana Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Ok, so i calibrated first at luminance 100 and my images seemed too bright compared to prints. Then i did it again at 80 and that seemed better, although the colors on the screen seem more vibrant. Is that normal or what is the expectation?
Damien Symonds Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 We'll get to the vibrance in a moment. Are you comfortable that 80 is perfect for brightness now? Or do you need to go to 70?
Viviana Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I think i want to give 70 a try, i feel like 80 may be a tad too bright. I'll do it tomorrow and let you know. 1
Viviana Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I just thought of something, perhaps a silly question. The prints im using to compare, should be of edited images or should they be SOOC? I ask because i obviously didnt know of you when I "edited" those images (which are aweful), so I want to make sure I am using the right stuff. Also, is this anywhere in your tutorials and can you point me in that direction?
Damien Symonds Posted December 9, 2020 Author Posted December 9, 2020 It absolutely doesn't matter. They can be good, or crappy. Heck, they don't even need to be from your pro camera. They could be from your phone if you wanted! All that matters is that they're printed at a pro lab.
Viviana Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 (edited) Alright, 70 did it. I have prints that pretty much match my screen. its funny how the benq says is calibrated but it is sooooo bright!! The colors are more vibrant on the screen but you said we will take care of those later. Edited December 10, 2020 by Viviana

Viviana Posted December 11, 2020 Posted December 11, 2020 Yellow mustard and skin look a bit more vibrant but is not like, oh gosh, those colors are SOOOO vibrant, if that makes Sense
