Blake Kinder
Hello Everyone. I am looking to purchase a new laptop within a reasonable budget (around 1,000$). I will only be using to run Lightroom and Photoshop. Can anyone provide feedback if this machine will be good enough? I have the XRite I1 display that I would be using to calibrate it. http://www.costco.com/Acer-Aspire-V15-Laptop-%7c-Intel-Core-i7-%7c-4k-Ultra-HD-%7c-4GB-Graphics-.product.100278246.html Any other recommendations would be welcomed also. Thanks, Blake
Damien Symonds
My personal experience with Acer hasn't been good. That doesn't look like an IPS screen. You'd be better to look to the Asus "Republic of Gamers" laptops, they're amazing.
Blake Kinder
Ok thanks Damien! I really know laptops aren't the best for editing on, but it would be best for my needs to get more editing done. Thanks, Blake
Damien Symonds
I would definitely be happy to edit on my Asus ROG lappy if it was the only option I had. The screen is amazing.
Blake Kinder
What are your thoughts on these 2? 1299$ Has 4GB dedicated Graphics Card and 1 TB HD with 128 SSD http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1183449-REG/asus_gl552vw_dh74_i7_6700hq_16gb_1tb_128ms3_windows_10_64_15_6.html 969$ Has 2GB dedicated Grapics Card and 1TB HD http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1183450-REG/asus_gl552vw_dh71_i7_6700hq_16gb_1tb_windows_10_64_960m_15_6.html I really am only looking to use Photoshop, maybe Adobe Premiere CC at somepoint. Would either of these options be good? Thanks, Blake
Damien Symonds
Both would be great, but in my opinion, the one with the SSD would be well worth the extra money. I'm interested to hear @Brian's thoughts on it.
Brian
The thing with SSD, is it needs to be "large" enough. Yes, SSD drives are fast, but if it's only a 128GB or 256GB, it's "too small" by my standards. You really want a 500GB SSD drive or larger. Yes, even if you only intend to install LR/PS the OS and whatever. Updates that get pushed down are usually in the large side of things and Adobe likes having side-by-side installs when it pushes down the updated software. Combine that with Windows updates, browser updates and dealing with the PS Scratch Disk, it's very easy to run out of room. That being said, you can't go "next-next-ok-next-next-finish..." when installing software or "let me download these five sessions that I need to edit..." With the main drive, you NEED TO BE ANAL on what gets installed on a 256GB or smaller SSD drive.
Brian
I'd get the $969 version. 2GB Graphics and a 1TB HD.
