KAHayon
Dear Wise Sage, Can XMP data be incorporated into a DNG file? I know that someone could send an XMP file and that could easily be incorporated into a CR file but can it happen with a DNG file? I know that all of the edits are saved directly to the DNG file. So, for example, if I wanted to do a little outsourcing, and my camera is too new for my old Adobe CS5 so I convert my CR files to DNGs in order to edit, could I send the DNG for editing, have the file edited and send the XMP file back? Then could I apply the XMP file edits to my existing DNG? Alternatively, if someone edited my DNG file, could they just send back the DNG file and would it open with the edits without issue? Are there any reasons why that would not occur. Clearly file versions and changes are boggling my mind despite reading your DNG and XMP articles! I also googled like a crazy person before posting this- so....well, that probably didn't help in the clarification department! Thanks, Kerry Ann
Damien Symonds
This is tricky, you'd need your outsourcer to edit with the 2010 sliders so that you could open it at your end. If they edited with the new sliders, you wouldn't be able to use 'em. Have you talked to them about it?
KAHayon
Thanks! Yes, I reached out to see what the editor things / recommends based with this in mind. I'm wondering if it just might be time for me to bite the bullet and upgrade to Adobe Cloud....I do think that you are hitting on exactly my concern with compatibility though. I am also a Damien disciple and don't do that whole LR thing so I noticed a few outsourcing services are a no go for use as I can't handle an LR catalogue. Thanks again for your help on this!
