HeatherPetersheim
Hi there - Banding has been my nemesis for months. All of the Damien suggestions (noise layer, replacing with a gradient layer, and not editing in PS) have not helped me and I am thinking it might be a setting I have not set right. I raw process in LR, and I do not see any banding when I am finished up there, but when I export and the image opens in Elements, the banding is there. Before I even touch anything in Elements, it is there. This leads me to believe it has to do with the conversion of raw to jpeg. Any suggestions? Attatched is the image, and the banding I still have after trying everything. Thank you!
Christina Keddie
Why are you exporting the image to bring it into PS from LR? Does the banding exist right when you open the image in PS if you send it via the "edit in" function?
HeatherPetersheim
That is what I do, "edit in" function. I shouldn't have said export I guess. Yes, it exists immediately when I open the image in PS Elements, and it isn't there the instant I press Edit in, in LR. Also happens if I raw edit in ACR instead of LR. Christina Keddie
And it exists even if you're editing in 16bits?
HeatherPetersheim
Yes, here is one right from LR where I raw edited it, and exactly as it is upon entering Elements, still banding, in 16 bit. HeatherPetersheim
This is after I added a gradient layer per your instructions and then a noise layer on top of that. I still see horizontal line banding Even if I just edit in LR and save, I get banding. Any other ideas? I love these backdrops best of all. Thanks! Samantha LaRue
Is it visible on any of your prints?
HeatherPetersheim
Yes, that is the problem. And sometimes I don't even see in on the computer but I will have it on prints
Damien Symonds
I see from your sidebar that you have a laptop. Are you editing on the laptop screen, or on another screen plugged into it?
HeatherPetersheim
Could it be a certain setting I have that isn't right?

HeatherPetersheim
Here is another I just did. I did a gradient layer, added noise at 20% and I see quite a bit of horizontal lines aka banding. I owe a drink (or more) to whoever can help me crack this

I assure you there is no banding in these photos you're posting. This is a screen problem.
HeatherPetersheim
Yes, I can see it on my other laptop, on my phone, and when I asked in a photographers group a few people said they could see it and others said they could not. My concern is because the last few times I got pro lab prints, the banding was there. Thanks for trying to help me
Damien Symonds
No, a desktop screen you can plug into it.
