  1. Hi Brian....problem solved.....it appears to have been a cord issue.
  2. Hi Brian, I updated my MacBook Pro to Monterey yesterday. My photos are kept on an external G Drive and I can't get it to load. The G drive is flashing. I've rebooted twice. I'm also having problems getting my Mac to shut down so I've had to do a hard boot twice.
  3. I've moved the G-utilities onto the G drive and, in the other folder, I've deleted all of the Aliases. Thanks Brian.
  4. Hi Brian! A recent thread in Damien's Facebook site reminded me to clean up my desktop again......I did delete a small number of screen shots etc and now I have everything on my Mac desktop set up as an Alias. With two exceptions. And neither has actually been set up by me. One is called "Desktop--Judy's MacBook Pro" and appears to be the desktop items from my previous Mac....which were all set up as Aliases and which I can't open on this Mac although it does give me the option each time to "fix alias" or "delete alias". Advice as to what to do with this folder? The second one is called "G-utilities" and is from my external hard drive. Can I set this up as an alias? Or should I be moving it somewhere?
  5. I have a new external hard drive, a G-tech. In the process of putting my 2021 files on it. Meanwhile, I found the spot in Bridge where you change the "open with" but everything looks good (I think). Nothing is opening with topaz/denoise. There is a "reset to default" but I have not tried it yet. This is what it looks like in Finder and in Bridge. All of my files on March 1 and March 2 are like the screenshots below and I've seen it the odd time before March 1.....usually I get grey squares and so I purge the cache and some/all will reappear with the Denoise icon but then will usually change to the image thumbnail.
  6. So it certainly appears that my problems with Bridge are somehow connected to the Lacie. When I switch to a file on my desktop or on the Passport for Mac, it seems to work fine. I'm assuming there is something on the Lacie that Bridge doesn't like. I am in the process of making sure all of my Lacie files are backed up on the Passport. Once that is done, is there a utility that will find the problem on the Lacie and repair it? I'm still going to look at the G drives because Lacies constantly eject on their own (I've had 2 Macs and 3 lacies and it's happened consistently) which I know leads to corrupt files. One more question and this may even be the problem with the Lacie.....sometimes I have to purge the cache to get the thumbnails to display properly and occasionally, instead of displaying properly, it shows a Denoise icon. Yes I have and sometimes use Denoise. Don't tell Damien How do I get it to show Bridge (or should it be PS)?
  7. Forgot to mention....I've been trying two different external hard drives....one is a Lacie and the other is a "My Passport for Mac". I've always had problems with the Lacie ejecting all on its own (I've had more than one Lacie and more than one Mac and it's been a continuous problem) so I've been trying to switch over to the Passport for Mac, but loading my images onto the Passport is extremely slow AND my Mac does not like to eject it at all! Do you have a recommendation for an external hard drive?
  8. Hi Brian! I have a new Mac....I started having issues with it being really slow last month so I updated to Big Sur and it was fine until a couple of days ago. It appears my Mac has updated the PS to 21.2.4 (I definitely didn't do it deliberately) and Bridge to 10.1.1.666. Now my Mac doesn't like to open Bridge. And if it finally decides to open it, it's very very slow and I spend more time watching a spinning wheel than doing any actual editing. I'm also having trouble ejecting my external hard drive and my card reader although quite often it will eject my hard drive on its own. I updated to Big Sur 11.2.2 yesterday thinking that maybe this was a known issue and the update would fix it but noooooooo that didn't work. Help please!
  9. No, not really. It's probably just that most of my customers opt for plaquing so I don't have a ton of experience with canvases and was afraid the white of the swan wouldn't stand out against the white snowy background.
  10. Hi Damien, I have a customer that is inquiring about this image on canvas. Because of the white on white, I'm just not sure it will look right on canvas....perhaps plaquing might be better (with black edges). What do you think?
  11. Ok thanks Brian. My brand new Mac (well a couple of months old) slowed to a crawl and wouldn't cooperate with anything I tried to do so I ended up updating to Big Sur and it's fine now. But I will stick with Photoshop 21.2.4.
  12. Hi Brian! Is the Mac OS Big Sur 11.2 playing nice with the latest version of Photoshop or should I continue to use release 21.2.4?
  13. Well I may be sticking with a Mac. Changing now sounds like it might be a big pain. I did read the info about purchasing a laptop and what to look for and I’m assuming now your prices are in US funds because the prices I’m getting are WAY higher! But it also seems like the price difference between Macs and others isn’t as great in Canada as elsewhere.
  14. Brian....sorry but just to clarify....are you saying that I won't be able to open my images that have been edited with my Mac unless I buy special software that will convert them?
  15. You just reminded me of another question. I see a lot of laptops advertised as for "gaming". Does that matter to me? I see the one you recommended is a gaming laptop.....so is this something I should be looking for specifically (as long as it meets the other requirements of course)?
  16. Thanks Brian. It might not be a good time to buy a new laptop but one of these days my old one is going to die. Editing is already a challenge and I close everything but Photoshop. But I have had it for 6 years and I use it a lot! So I really can't complain. What if I switched to something other than a Mac? Do you have any recommendations? Will I have problems opening files that have been produced on my Mac (I'm pretty sure the answer to this will be yes). More importantly....will I have any problems opening/editing images that have been edited on my Mac and saved on my Lacie portable hard drives? So I'm looking for at least 16gb ram but 32 would be better. A 500 gb hard drive but 1tb would be better. Anything else I should be looking for specifically? What do I look for re the video card?
  17. Hi Brian! I have a Mac laptop running Catalina 10.15.6 and Photoshop 21.2.0. It is over 6 years old, and has 8GB of RAM. Its hard drive has 102GB free out of 251GB. It's slow. I keep getting error messages re memory. Maybe 6 years ago when I bought it, it was good enough to run photoshop....at least they told me it was. Now it's not. My photoshop screens keep turning gray or I get gray squares on top of my image. I am looking at getting another Mac Laptop. This is the one I am thinking of buying https://www.apple.com/ca/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro/13-inch-space-grey-2.0ghz-quad-core-processor-with-turbo-boost-up-to-3.8ghz-512gb# I would love to hear your opinion on the above choice. And I have a couple of questions/concerns: 1. Do I need to upgrade to 32gb? 2. And, as a photographer that sells prints, do I need to be concerned about this feature "It supports P3 wide colour for even more vibrant greens and reds and with sRGB. And every MacBook Pro features True Tone technology. The white balance automatically adjusts to match the colour temperature of the light around you--for a more natural viewing experience." 3. Is there anything else about this mac that would concern you or that you would recommend? Thanks Brian, I appreciate your help!
  18. Brian, when I am editing is it better to be working directly from my external hard drive? Or is it better to save the image on my Mac (in one of the Alias files?), then when finished save on my external and delete from Mac?
  19. Well that was easy! At least, the creation of aliases was easy. Next, saving the old stuff on a portable drive to free up some space. ? Thanks again Brian!
  20. Sounds like a good project for tomorrow; it's supposed to be a rainy day! Thanks Brian.
  21. Thanks Brian! Yes I have learned that the 8GB of RAM is an issue. Might invest in a non-mac laptop just for editing and keep my mac for emails, documents, etc. because unfortunately with my laptop I cannot add RAM to it. I do use CleanMyMac v 4.6.3. Thank you so much for all the information about how the desktop works and about aliases.....I had no idea! This will be tomorrow's project!
  22. I have a Mac laptop running catalina 10.15.4 and Photoshop 21.1.2. It is over 4 years old, and has 8GB of RAM. Its hard drive has 94GB free out of 251GB. The last time I shut down was last night. I run a cleanup program about once a week.
