Thanks - Brian, I think I focused and recomposed and I assume it caught the wrong eye. But I didn't think I needed to worry at this DOF but maybe I was closer than I thought....
-
Am I imagining that she is sharp and he isn't in all of these? There is no way he moved in every pic. I tried focus and recompose though and am wondering if somehow that contributed. I just don't know why one would be sharp and one not.
-
It seems everyone of this series though... he is soft, she is sharp. Can I use it still?
-
Really? I was stressing the focus on these badly!
-
I know.. I just wanted an expert opinion on the "why" it happened. It may just be DOF

I am trying to determine if lens has an issue or if it's me... I normally focus on front eye... I am not sure how close I was 85 mm... zoomed in on screen shot to show eyes... is that really that large of a plane difference?

SOOC... I suck with this lens and didn't have IS on (using monopod and noticed after... I still need IS even on monopod)... and I had mono attached to camera instead of lens holder I need to make one of these work.... I have a lot but am trying to determine if I am being over anal.....

I don't get it... it seems she is sharp but he may not be. He looks like shake but she is sharp.... I don't think its DOF?? Can I use this?

Okay - So I just played with a 3 light set up. I used a large PLM and reflector up front and she read 5.6. Camera was set to 5.6. I lit her backside at f4 (per a handheld meter) b/c I wanted it a stop of light lower. What I cannot wrap my head around is why f4 is less light. I still think of it as aperture... and f4 means more light when it comes to that. What is a logical way I can understand why a reading of f4 is less light? I know my camera is still set to 5.6. I like to full understand instead of just go through the motion.

Wow... thanks for all of this information. I can't wait to sit down and watch the video. I just purchased 3 Einstein lights and am eager to try using a light meter!

My flash/strobe settings aren't like that, but some light meters tell you to set the flashes according to f-stops. Mine is based on power levels.

Heck no. This is new. 5dMarkiv. I’ll keep sending it back until they get it right or replace.

How to achieve the popular Mastin lab look

I am wondering if this could work on the pic I am currently working on. Is the PSD still around? -
My camera is currently at the shop due to focus issues with the outer focal points. This will be my 3rd time sending it in.....

What can I improve? Is the WB off? I realize I used the sheet but I think I used it without flash (b/c I took a few natural light pics too) I ended up in the wrong section for posting again... SO sorry

Yeah, I use a huge PLM to help with even lighting too. I was trying to blur out the texture of the BG a little b/c it is an outdoor mat. Normally I try to shoot studio around 6.3 or so and don't tend to have issues. But I don't shoot kids this small often so I probably was closer than normal, reducing my DOF.
-
Very true... I may need to shoot at f8-f11 for kiddos to help with this. Thanks for the tip.

I was at 5.6 at 39mm.... I think I may have just slightly missed focus b/c I would think the DOF was deep enough (but then again I didn't calculate it)
