I don't know if this happened with the 2018 update or if I changed a setting, but I need help. I am using Photoshop CC 2018 with a Wacom tablet on a Windows PC. I've always been able to use my pen and tap the tablet to deselect a selection. Now the only way I can do it is by pressing Ctrl D. How can I get it back to be able to tap to deselect?

You'd need to check two things:

1. Can you still tap to deselect with other tools, such as the Marquee Tool?

2. When you use your mouse, can you click to deselect with the Patch Tool?

I can tap to deselect with the marquee tool. With the mouse using the patch tool, it doesn't deselect. I must have changed a setting somewhere, but I don't know which one.

I'm not aware of any setting which controls that.  It sounds more like a glitch to me.

Can you click and immediately drag to make a new selection ok?  Is that functionality still working?

That works just fine. I was just trying some other things and if I right click on the mouse I have the option to deselect. It's been awhile since I've used my mouse to edit so I don't know if that is new or not.

Damien, I found it. It was something I totally missed. The add to button for selections was checked and I didn't realize it. Once I switched it to the normal selection, it works like it's suppose to. Just thought I'd let you know in case it ever happens to anyone else.
