Damien Symonds
Add a new blank layer at the top of the layer stack. Then hit Ctrl Alt Shift E to make a stamped version of the whole image. Then yes, convert that layer to a smart object. Then apply Gaussian Blur. Then add a mask.
Tarria
not happy with that outcome. it looks crap. How do i make it look consistant? the cloned and textured areas dont look even
Damien Symonds
I'm really sorry about this. If I'd known there was texture in the rug I would never have sent you down this path. In the first photo you gave me (I just went back and checked) it looked like the rug was smooth; that's why I thought all this copying and masking business would work. What is it about the blur option that you don't like?
Tarria
You are right. I had already put a blur in the 1st one but when i tried so many times and it didn't work i started back at scratch ill show you Its obvious
Tarria
Just to show you but clearly i havn't masked out babies yet
Damien Symonds
So ... to clarify, would you rather have nice texture in the blanket if you could?
Tarria
i just want it to be pleasing to the eye. The blanket is only a light knit. so not too fussed. And once i crop a little more it wont be so prominent.
Damien Symonds
Well, the alternative is to take a plain photo of the blanket (or any blanket of similar texture, doesn't need to be the same colour) and put that in there.
Tarria
poop cant do that at this point in time
Damien Symonds
Oh? You don't have your camera? Or don't have a blanket?
Tarria
neither i do my computer work at home, not at the studio I could do it another day but i need to complete this gallery and send off the order
Damien Symonds
Then you probably don't have any choice but to increase the blur?
Tarria
ok thanks it's not too bad is it then?

Damien Symonds
May I see how blurred it needs to be?
Tarria
This one has blur at 20 the previous one is at 7.
Damien Symonds
Here's another option. Let me know if you think it's got legs, and I'll tell you about the method. Download PSD (Sorry the file is so big, I needed it to be so you could see the texture. Also, I've only masked the left-hand side, from about 6 o'clock to 12 o'clock.) Just now, Tarria said: This one has blur at 20 the previous one is at 7.5 If you're running out of time, I guess this might have to do.
Tarria
do you think it looks too mottled?

Yes, it's mottled, but I can't decide if that's a good or bad thing. Does it make it look more natural?
Damien Symonds
46 minutes ago, Tarria said: yours looks fab It's probably fairly self-explanatory. It's based on this method. But when I added the noise layer, I increased the Scale to a size that looked appropriate for the texture of the blanket. (In mine I used 190%, but of course yours would be much higher in the real file)
Damien Symonds
What did you decide to do, @Tarria?
Tarria
I finished it off and sent through the order. I am going to try what you did, for interest sake but i thought it may be a littlt too fake for this pic.
