Alice_M
Hi there. I'd really love to get a whole new computer (a desktop), but just can't afford that at the moment, so I'm going to see if I can at least afford an external monitor, as I'm finding editing on the laptop really tricky. So....is it as simple as just choosing a good (for my price range) screen, or does it depend on my laptop (graphics card etc etc) as to what it will support? I've read a bit about this and to be honest, have found it quite confusing. I have a Toshiba Satellite L50-B (Part no. PSKTAA - 003001) and a small budget and I'm in Australia. What are my options? Damien Symonds
Good screens are getting cheaper and cheaper, it's great. You can find IPS screens very affordably now. http://www.damiensymonds.net/art_monitor.html
Alice_M
Do you know of local (Australia-wide) retailers? Everything seems to need to be shipped from the US.
Damien Symonds
Well, if you were thinking of buying one of the excellent Dell Ultrasharp screens, you could go to their AU website. And this mob seem to have a good range.

Alice_M
Just checked out those Dell Ultrasharp ones and although I'd love one, the cheapest is $389, which is a bit out of my budget at the moment. Don't you love money! Edited April 19, 2016 by Alice_M
Alice_M
Is this a good budget buy? http://www.lg.com/us/monitors/lg-22MP58VQ-P-led-monitor As far as I can see, it has the specs mentioned in the "Which monitor..." article (IPS screen, anti-glare, etc). They also have it here in OZ within my price range. https://www.jbhifi.com.au/computers-tablets/monitors/lg/lg-22mp58vq-21-5-full-hd-ips-led-monitor/945794/ I realise that it's probably not that crash hot, but I have a budget of about $200 (perhaps $250 max), so considering that, is it a decent buy? Brian
Both seem fine. The only brand I would avoid is Samsung. They make great displays, but are a real pain to get calibrated. Those LG ones you linked to seem to be ok.
