Black ain’t black

This is a heck of a confusing thing. We are used to black being ... well, black. On our computer and TV screens black is the absence of any image detail. And when we turn them off? Black. When we look at printed photos, black is the darkest possible detail on the page. Nothing can be darker than black. Black is black, right?

Well, no. In the world of ink-on-paper, there are literally varying levels of black. And you need to know how to control them.
