vibrant but moody look

Okay I want to try to edit my photo something like this

 I want the rich hues and shadows without too much warmth.

I also like the look of this photo although it seems more muted...Plus i realize I don't have the bright sky behind subject in my photo like this one.

 

Here's my photo.....I just don't know where to start. Been awhile.

I figure you'd start with a Hue/Saturation layer on "Hard Light" blend mode, with its Saturation slider all the way down to -100.  Then you'd vary the opacity of the layer to taste, I think around 60% works ok.

Then add a Levels layer on top, with these values for the Output sliders:

• R 0/210
• G 5/215
• B 0/215

Okay thanks for the suggestion, I gave it a try, but I've been playing with it for awhile and think I have come up with something I like.

 

 

I know the removal of the light will not look great to you, but it was the best I could do
