fstoplife Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 Hi! I am trying to achieve this look https://www.facebook.com/monicablissphotography/photos/a.112774646896702/198196905021142/ I know it's a bunch of dodging and burning, but I feel like there is something else, is it extra sharpening? A high pass layer? I just can't figure it out. I want that illustrated book look. I do think that her light is a little flatter, if you think that will help, I will definitely redo the pics, I would like to know how on any photo, because I do see it like that other places. I can't find another good example, but just that illustrated look, with sharp edges, I think. I can't explain, so I can't figure it out! Thank you!!
Damien Symonds Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 There used to be a plugin called "Lucis" that did this. I don't know if it exists any more.

fstoplife Posted October 26, 2020 Author Posted October 26, 2020 I think so, but maybe it just needs to be brightened up a little? Does it look HDR to you, the original? I just feel like I am missing that one thing!! The dodge and burn I got, I just don't know what else it is
Damien Symonds Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 It's not HDR. Everyone makes that mistake. It's called "tonemapping". Google will find you lots of info about it.
fstoplife Posted October 26, 2020 Author Posted October 26, 2020 oh great, thank you! I will look that up and see what I can find!
Damien Symonds Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 Can you link me to an example with a plain dark background like your photo has? Rather than a busy background like the example you've given?

fstoplife Posted October 26, 2020 Author Posted October 26, 2020 Ohh yea! That is getting closer!! I will look around and see what I can find, maybe that is key, I can upload another photo that is a little busier if that helps
Damien Symonds Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 Well, I'd rather not waste either of our time editing photos that you don't actually intend to use. Since you like this photo of the two girls against the green backdrop, I'd prefer to concentrate our efforts on finding a style that works for them.
Damien Symonds Posted October 26, 2020 Posted October 26, 2020 Are you interested in seeing my PSD file so far?
fstoplife Posted October 26, 2020 Author Posted October 26, 2020 Okay, let me see what I can find, I do have another photo I can use. I searched that photographer's website and I couldn't find any other examples, I am guessing maybe it's a new style she just learned

fstoplife Posted October 28, 2020 Author Posted October 28, 2020 I am here! I was looking for an example, then it went to the back burner. I am on it!
