Crystal Scheuermann
Ok, re-calibrated again. My prints are just slightly more "rosy" than my screen. I mainly notice this in skin tones. It is slight, but since I am inspecting it, I see it. Wondering if I should keep in mind where you say to "have some tolerance" and accept it as it is. Damien Symonds
Can you explain what you mean by "rosy"? Do you mean pinkness?
Crystal Scheuermann
Yes. The skin tones are slightly pinker than my screen.
Damien Symonds
But you're not observing pinkness anywhere else? In greys, for example? Or blues that are a tiny bit on the purple side?
Crystal Scheuermann
Yes, I see it a little in the greys and lighter blues as well.
Damien Symonds
Ok, great! Then follow the advanced troubleshooting part of my instructions to nudge slightly towards green.

Crystal Scheuermann
Oh, gosh. This is bringing me way back about 11 years to when I was printing my own color film prints in the lab in college. I know it's not exactly the same, but we were constantly writing down the color numbers and adjusting to get it right lol

Crystal Scheuermann
Yep, that's what I'm reading! It just reminds me of writing down all the color values from back then while exposing the paper in the enlarger. I think we used CMYK, though.
Crystal Scheuermann
Wait. Since my prints are more pink than my screen, I actually need to nudge towards pink on my screen, not green...correct?
Damien Symonds
Sorry, yes, that's right.
Crystal Scheuermann
I noticed you did not adjust the x and y values equally in your example. Is there a certain rule to follow here? Should you always adjust y more aggressively than x? Will one value bring you closer to the warmer tones of the pink instead of the cooler ones? (based on the color graph in your example)
Damien Symonds
I can't remember why I didn't, sorry.
Crystal Scheuermann
Ok, my screen matches my prints as closely as I think it will now!

Crystal Scheuermann
Thanks! Paid. Headed to bed now and plan on reviewing the raw class again tomorrow.
Crystal Scheuermann
Just a question out of curiosity...I know this class will last as long as it takes to get it right on my end, but can you offer any sort of insight on how long I should expect to be at this stage of the training if I work at it regularly and don't disappear for a few months like I see you have happen sometimes? lol. Not trying to rush the process, just trying to manage my expectations on the timeline. I feel like I am going through a midlife editing crisis ?. I've found that editing the raw files properly on my current client galleries, and then trying to edit in photoshop without learning how you handle processing after ACR is not going well for me at all and my colors are looking disgusting to me. Damien Symonds
A couple of weeks is enough, if you apply yourself intensely.
