shalea
Hi Damien, sorry im so bad with technology! The part where you need to check your screens brightness (im using a PC) my display options doesn't have a section where I can select screen brightness. Is it staring me?? Damien Symonds
@shalea what screen do you have?
shalea
It's a Samsung and here are the specs. Is this the info you require?
Damien Symonds
No, that's the info about your computer. I want to know about the screen. What make/model is it?
shalea
I hate that I’m so dumb ha ha hence why I’m here to learn from you. Here is the screenshot of the details of the monitor I have
Damien Symonds
Perfect, thanks. So Samsung screens have that stupid little joystick button on the back, and that's how you access the screen controls like brightness (and colour and stuff). The button is described on page 10 of the manual.

Only laptop screens use this Display Options window to adjust brightness. And yours isn't a laptop screen.
shalea
Oh wow! I have been driving myself crazy wondering how I adjust my screen brightness!! So Brightness is set at 100%, Contrast 75% and Sharpness 60%. Do i need to adjust this yet? Or just keep going with the calibration instructions? Could this be why you said my photos are so dark? (insert embarrassed face)
Damien Symonds
Just now, shalea said: Could this be why you said my photos are so dark? Absolutely. 100% brightness is WAY too high. Follow my exact calibration instructions. They'll tell you when to adjust the brightness.
shalea
Thank you so much for your time, I'll keep going.

shalea
I'm not sure why my reply isn't showing from today? Perhaps I thought I posted it but it didn't work. Anyway I didn't continue with calibrating because I haven't received my prints yet from the photoshop and I read that you said not to continue until I have them ? shalea
Hi Damien, just wanting to check if my photos are still too dark? Not sure if I am allowed to post this here or not, but genuinely want feedback after calibrating. Thanks. (I have just started the RAW class so please bare with me in terms of editing) Edited May 31, 2021 by shalea
Damien Symonds
It's impossible to tell on the basis of just one photo. Don't worry about it for now. If I see a pattern of darkness in your raw class posts, I'll let you know.
shalea
Page 26 of the manual you attached above is for my stupid Samsung screen I can't figure out why I can't change the RGB anymore when calibrating my screen. Only brightness/contrast is displayed but I used to be able to adjust the colours. HELP 😵
Damien Symonds
Page 26 seems to give some indication of circumstances when colour adjustments aren't available?
shalea
I can’t figure it out. When I go to settings and display on the pc it doesn’t have Amit hung on there about colour management. It’s the worst system.
shalea
I used to be able to use that button under the pc while I was calibrating and it would change the colour but now I don’t even get the option.
Damien Symonds
Maybe you need to do an entire reset on the screen?
shalea
I tried taking out the Display Port cable and reconnecting it. I tried also shutting down and restarting and now the only thing that will work on the joystick is the volume. I don't even get the option to change contrast anymore. How to I set the monitor back to factory settings when nothing will work on the joystick? I thought it may be my cable that needs replacing but the lady at the repair store seems to think it most likely isn't the cord as it's still connecting to my pc and working. Not sure what else to do? Take it in for repairs? I would like to try and trouble shoot it myself incase its something I can fix myself

shalea
So it turns out the joystick button was pushed in a little too far! I had to pull it our slightly and now it works again. Far out!
