cathm Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 Got it, thanks! Do you ever manually change the contrast on your monitor?
Damien Symonds Posted February 26, 2019 Author Posted February 26, 2019 Only in cases of absolute desperation. If you find yourself in those dire straits, it really suggests that your monitor isn't very good.
cathm Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 I am trying to calibrate my laptop. I adjusted the brightness so that the measured white luminance would be 100, however, it jumps up to 120 as I close the adjustment window. Does this ever happen to you Damien? Please see attached photos of before and after I close the adjustment window. So I just leave it as it is? Thanks.
Damien Symonds Posted March 7, 2019 Author Posted March 7, 2019 It's because you have the brightness window sitting underneath the device, of course.
cathm Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 Hi Damien! Thanks for your reply. Sitting underneath the device? I opened the brightness window on top of the i1display program like the first pic. Sorry, could you please let me know what to do in order to resolve this problem?
Damien Symonds Posted March 7, 2019 Author Posted March 7, 2019 You have to move this window over So that it's not under the device.
cathm Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Ohhhhh!!! Duh..... Thank you Damien for clarifying!!!
cathm Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 I finished taking your Br class. I am interested in Skin class but what's the next step?
Damien Symonds Posted March 8, 2019 Author Posted March 8, 2019 Raw Class next. https://www.facebook.com/groups/195567190503489/permalink/2214850475241807/
cathm Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Hi Damien! You are right.. I should have used the images with various colors for the test prints. I ordered these prints and noticed that most prints came out warmer. The calibration setting is based on the laptop here though. I wasn’t sure how to switch back to the setting for my monitor. Could you please help me? Thanks!
cathm Posted March 13, 2019 Posted March 13, 2019 Oh, I thought there was a way to switch to another saved icc profile, no?
Damien Symonds Posted March 13, 2019 Author Posted March 13, 2019 There is, but it doesn't apply in this case. Based on this new, more comprehensive, evidence, you need to calibrate again.
cathm Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Oh, I see... I thought there was a way to compare side by side (monitor vs laptop) when you asked me which one looks better so I was trying to do it to figure it out. But I guess there is no way to compare them?
Damien Symonds Posted July 3, 2019 Author Posted July 3, 2019 @cathm, please update me with where we're at. You said your screen still doesn't match your prints. In what way does it differ?
cathm Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 Yes, I feel like I’m back to square one... here is how my monitor, MacBook Pro, and my print from Bay Photo look like...
Damien Symonds Posted July 4, 2019 Author Posted July 4, 2019 Which of the two monitors is a closer match to the prints?
cathm Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 (edited) One thing i noticed too is that my Macbook Pro color changes when I connect it to the monitor. (to less red). Edited July 4, 2019 by cathm
cathm Posted July 4, 2019 Posted July 4, 2019 As you can see in the comparison photo, Macbook Pro looks more red than the print and the Monitor looks cooler than the print.
Damien Symonds Posted July 4, 2019 Author Posted July 4, 2019 We'll concentrate on the monitor. Follow the troubleshooting part of my calibration instructions.
Damien Symonds Posted July 5, 2019 Author Posted July 5, 2019 Near the bottom of this page, we're trying the "Different preset" step. Do you still have your piece of paper where you wrote down the readings from your monitor's presets?
Damien Symonds Posted July 16, 2019 Author Posted July 16, 2019 No. We have no control over the laptop.
