What screen do you have?

As I can't see what you're talking about, it leads me to think it's a problem with your screen, or your absence of calibration, rather than your image files.  Have you viewed this post on another screen?

May I see the version with your cloning?  The whole photo?

This is indeed a quandary.  Never be afraid to leave a bit of noise in an old photo, if it also means you can preserve detail.

Old photos are the opposite to digital photos in this regard.

I think maybe you mean moire?

Then press Ctrl Alt Shift E to create a new layer above.  On that layer, go to Filter>Noise>Reduce Noise.  Apply it to your taste.

Then start the patient cloning repairs.

If so, the next step is to add a Channel Mixer layer, click "Monochrome", and enter 100% for the red channel, 0% for the other two channels.

The absolute easiest way would be to change the background entirely.  Are they married to that lattice thing?

The method to my madness is about to become clear, I hope.

Zoom in to 100% view, then go to your Channels panel.  Click on the word "Red", then "Green", then "Blue".  Compare them  I think you'll agree that the red channel has the nicest quality detail.

Not in Bridge.  In ACR.  Just open one image in ACR, and look at the blue link at the bottom.  Change it there, then go ahead and edit your photo as normal.
