  1. This is one of my favorite animal photographers! She has an entire section of her website dedicated to the gear she uses, as well as blog posts on her lenses - http://scruffydogphotography.com/index.php/the-scruffy-dog-gear-2/ She also offers mentoring if you ever want to learn from her one on one.
  2. Can you fill this out real quick for us? http://www.damiensymonds.com.au/thread1.html If you mean just 12 GB of hard drive space, that could definitely be part of the problem.
  3. i may or may not have done this. did the same thing with spinning/fiber arts too. just can't do anything the proper way. LOL!
  4. Have you checked the focus on this yet? The little boys eyes seem OOF and I think thats the most important part, right?
  5. You can add contrast back in when you move to PS. But in raw, preserve the details.
  6. Some labs offer a "true black & white" that might help you out here. Worth looking into!
  7. Yes, you can always sign up right here: http://www.damiensymonds.net/trainingraw.html There is a waiting still, I believe, for the Deluxe version - but you can get started reading right away.
  8. Which movie? I was able to look it up on IMDB for the recent one, but I'm guessing you could look up the old ones too. For The Force Awakens: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2488496/technical
  9. You should be able to just open File/Windows Explorer or Finder and select them all and drag+drop them into the dropbox loader. Is that not what you've been doing? The XMP files are always separate from the raw files. It sounds like you might have been converting to DNG somewhere along the way if you've never had to deal with the XMP files before.
  10. Sometimes this pops up because you accidently saved it as "progressive" or one of those other weird JPEG versions. It also sometimes pops up because ROES is just dumb. Can you first try updating ROES, then try restarting your computer? And then try saving them again, making sure it's on Baseline/Standard?
  11. While that is the correct size, I've had better luck cropping to that ratio (851:315) - and then resizing to 2048px on the long side. This seems to look better across all devices, whereas resizing to the exact size can make it look bad on mobile.
  12. I'm sure you probably checked this but - are you sure your PS is fully expanded? It looks like it might be off your screen just a little bit to the right since I can't see the "lock" on the background layer either.
  13. I was thinking more along the lines of it being compatible with the new monitors you'll be purchasing. But your OS could play a role too.
  14. Not one that I've heard. Perhaps Damien knows? I kinda like the popup because it's a good reminder for me to go back to look at my history and make sure that I yes did in fact save the PSD prior to resizing and making my jpeg. Also, this isn't usually an issue because most of the time I edit a bunch of PSDs, and then turn them into jpegs all at once via Image Processor. That pop-up doesn't appear when you do that since it only creates new jpegs in a separate folder.
  15. I think you've gotten sufficient years out of that one to warrant a replacement. http://www.damiensymonds.net/what2buy_cal.html If you want to be more conservative, you can wait until your computer and monitors are all set up and then see if the calibrator still works properly. But where is the fun in that?
  16. Just make sure you've done all your raw editing first - including noise removal.
  17. You posted 2 different pictures, can you post the "before" of the bottom one too? Make sure it's SOOR (all raw editing done, no PS work) Also, are you in the levels class?
  18. And could you have used something like Photos or iPhoto or other software to transfer your photos to your computer? When you say you checked the cards again - do you mean you had the cards themselves hooked up to your computer and you viewed their contents in finder? Or were you looking at the folders that LR stored the files in?
  19. Do you have any images with a strong backlight? Yours are all very evenly lit, and I think part of the editing you're finding the most appealing is due to her dramatic lighting. It looks like heavy haze to me...as in, done in camera due to the strong light. (example of an old photo I took, SOOR)
  20. You are not the first person to report this in the recent weeks. At least the third I've seen. I'm going to go pull up the other posts and see if I can find similarities. I think they may all be PC users at least. Hmm, so the one I was thinking of was a Mac user. And the other 2 were slightly different issues. And then I found a 4th, but her toggle wasn't working when she flicked between profiles.
