Gradient 3 must need to be darker. And have you moved it across so it's centred on that shadow area on the left?

Don't get confused by the term "Scratch Disk". It's not some mysterious extra hard drive hidden on your computer. It simply refers to the amount of free space on your hard drive; and it sounds very much like you don't have enough free space.

Have you observed that the PSD files are smaller, or bigger, than their source raw files?

I would think original. I see no reason to force files to be something other than they are.

What did you end up doing about this?

Ah, it's pretty easy. Just make sure you work at low opacity (I used 5%) and take your time. It's not a fast process.

Have you used liquify and D&B before?
